So far as I'm aware, the N400's power boost comes from a revised active air intake system, and a remapped ECU.

I don't want the harder ride or the cheesy Nurgburgring stitching everywhere, so I'd rather keep my current car, although I wouldn't mind the extra power. Seems a relatively simply retrofit to me.

Anyone got any ideas about whether they'll allow this?

No idea. My guess is it would be expensive if they did.

In the old days, Works Service would have done this for you (though for a price...) - the only limits were what you wallet would withstand. Under Ford, product liability, tighter legislation, etc. (and warranty issue, I assume) has meant that they won't upgrade the engine. As a standalone company, this might change - I certainly hope so.

However, with cars becoming more complex (Engine ECU talks to gearbox ECU talks to Stability ECU, etc.) it becomes more difficult to do this.
