V8 Vantage - Oil scavenger pump noise when cold..?
Discussion
Do you lot also get a short low-frequency whining noise from the engine bay when starting up or loading the drivetrain when cold?
Hard to describe but if you get it you'll know what I mean. Everytime you start her up from cold in the morning you'll hear it sort of spool up and then go away... might come back briefly when you load the drivetrain as you engage the clutch on pull away or something similar.
I've been told this is the dry sump oil scavenger pump and that 'they all do that'.

I've just noticed this in the last couple of weeks. Only happens for a few seconds when I've done 4-5 miles and changing down, so under light engine braking, but once warm there's no sign of it. Mentioned it to the garage and will keep monitoring it. They said there was a fix to replace the oil valve but suggested it would only be necessary if the problem became more persistent.
Just a little more info, I was told that to change the valve the engine timing chain has to come off, along with other front parts of the engine which is a semi-major job.
The dealer did explain to me that it was not a problem for the valve to make this noise and in no way does it affect performance or reliability. Thus I have decided I would live with the noise as opposed to the dealer techs removing the front of my engine which *may* then lead to other issues if not done properly.
However, if I were to keep the car for a lenghty period of time then I would have had it changed.
