OK, probably a topic many don't like. I'm wondering what the collective think the recent model AM V8s will be down to in 12-18 months time. I'm thinking of one to replace my TVR T350 - with the exception of a 599 I cannot think of another car to replace the TVR right now apart from the Aston.

I'm hoping you'll say I can probably pick one up for around 50-55k by then smile I'd go for a less popular (cheaper?) colour though, like red (personal taste, but I can't stand silver, grey or black).

How is the servicing/insurance? Do/will Aston offer an extended warranty?

P.S. I don't suppose DB9s will be in that price range by then too???

I would have thought youd be able to get the earliest leggy ones for £50-55 in 18 months

servicing depends on where you live as the dealer labour rates vary from 90-150 ph + vat - 5.5 hrs on a 10K service + parts so £700-1000 ish

insurance - obviously depends on many factors, but we have a Sagaris, Elise and V8 and the V8 is the cheapest of the 3 by about 20% even though its worth more than the other 2 put together (yeah work that one out!)

you can extend the warranty up to 5 or 7 years i think - dunno how much it is per year though

There are no V8 vantages that have reached the end of the manufacturers warranty yet. I was given a non-binding guide price by an Aston Martin main dealer of £700-£800 per year for a vantage warranty.

as a valid measure look at the prices of the DB7 vantage and earlier models to calculate a reasonable rate of depreciation. Please consider also the supply side effect that is the V8 production of ONE year is the equivalent of almost all the DB 7 produced.

The V8 will be hit hard by depreciation but this is good news for second hand would-be buyers.

PS: there is no cheap Aston out there. Insurance, servicing will always be high.

PPSS: if depreciation is a concern then do not buy an Aston at all, if you do not mind me saying it smile

God I hope so, but I doubt it, this is what you have to pay for a decent Audi or a Boxster! I would expect it to be much more like £1200...but here's hoping!

I reckon 50-55k is likely to take ~10mths more for the earliest "wrong" spec cars. Maybe less if they ramp up production of the coupe again.

Servicing as mentioned above.

I believe warranty can be extended to 8yrs (though for some reason even longer rings bells).

Looks like the baby Aston V8 is the natural upgrade of choice for the T350 owner (me too .. bounce one day )

What car has a depreciation calculator :

According to that a 2 year old V8 RS4 for £26,000 where can I go to get that?

This topic has been covered before on this website and the replies seem to follow
a small number of well trodden paths, namely
1. I bought one and dont care about the depreciation and if you do, dont get one.
2. I bought one and dont like to be reminded about the depreciation.
3. I bought one and will not admit the depreciation.
4. I want one and I am counting on the depreciation!

Look at this - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/245948.htm as an example.
A 55 reg vantage with low miles, albeit a (IMHO) unattractive colour/interior. If you were serious, I'd guess it would be easy to get this for £58k-£59k so I dont think the depreciation guide on whatcar is unrealistic, and I dont think you'll have to accept high miles or unpopular colours.

The last time this was discussed, most owners admitted to expecting £1k depreciation per month - its easy to do the math.

Personally, I'm waiting for 18 months (March 2009) when I'll be looking for a Mar 2006 AM V8 that is 3 years old and just out of warranty (which I think will have a big impact), and I expect it will be around £50k private.

Doubt you'll be far off. I reckon a range of 47-52k at that age depending on spec.

On cars of this nature I'd also be less concerned about mileage. Far better a car that's done normal car miles (say 6-12k a year) with decent history and few problems than one that's barely done anything and the problems are all still to come.

I think your commnent about miles travelled is right. At 3 years old, I'll be looking at anything with less than 40,000 on the clock.

Thanks chaps.

I'm looking forward to it already. Hate borrowing money for cars which is why I was asking about the 50k range. Also hate mega depreciation (but I'm not daft, I worked out what my TVR would be worth after 3 years and went into ownership knowing I'd lose that much - its actually probably worth more, so a bonus). I'll be looking for an AM V8 later next year...

... but I'll also be keeping an eye on DB9 prices smile

It's a weird thing but knowing the depreciation that some cars / owners experience totally removes the envy for me .. it changes to pity with a slight intake of breath.

Now a Tamora and a V8 Vantage would be a little excessive....but a RS4 and a V8 Vantage would be puuurrrrfect!
