AM V8 Vantage rough start
Discussion
Not heard of it either.
I wonder if the ECUs can be reset on these like on Ferraris. i.e. you disconnect the cars battery for a while (the isolator will do), pref overnight, then when you restart it do not touch the throttle or any other controls (aircon off I think) and leave it for 10-15mins while it recalibrates itself...
Mine idles quite high for 30-60secs, but settles down nicely after that. I make sure I don't touch the throttle etc when starting it.
Sounds like it's ECU/sensor related somewhere along the line, but odd that you've had so many.

My idle is smooth on start-up. But if I try and pull away with aggressive throttle immediately it will hesitate. It only happens once and is totally acceptable and understandable. All I have to do is let the car idle for about two minutes and then it is smooth. This should actually be standard pratice with any car. The more high performance, the more important for engine life. Car companies have gone to great lengths to make the fuel mixture, timing and air opening adjustments by the ECU accommodate cold starts BUT this time period is the hardest on the engine due to poor oil dispersment and high fuel dilution. Unless you are sitting in a garage, I see no problem with this practice.

I am on my 4th AMV8 and 3 of them iddle like crap when cold started !
Any feedback on this. The dealer cant seem to fix it,they tell me AM "is aware" .
And you know, it needs a good 4-5 mns before it really smooths out and revs well.
Mine idles fine! What kind of fuel are you using? I wonder if it is overfuelling on cold start? Warm starts ok?Any feedback on this. The dealer cant seem to fix it,they tell me AM "is aware" .

On your intake manifold you will have a sensor which measures the temp of the engine.
Basically when an engine is cold it needs the petrol injecting harder into the engine and this sensor tells the comp (ecu) this.
The default on these are set for engine running when hot so if its faulty it wont detect a cold engine.
If this is faulty it will give you the symptoms that you are getting.
Try it theyre not expensive and you just screw the old one out and the new one in.
Some are colour coded for different temp settings. Make sure you get the exact replacement and not an aftermarket one.
Good Luck
