Sadly when I tried the car it was VERY wet, so couldn't really get the best out of the beast, hope you get a dry day.
The extra grunts all at the top end & with the added aural excitement I think this will bring out the devil in you !
Will be interesting to hear what you think..... are you taking the cheque book?

I am hoping it will be dry and they will find me some roads (or track) where I can really give it some beans. Financial Approval has not been granted, but I want to try to see how forceful I need to be when putting in the request for the cheque book. Also I am saving hard to replace the chav wagon (WRX that I secretly love, shhh) with an RS4 Wagon to run the little one round in (she likes V8 cars), so I'll have to see how good the Performance Pack is.

The day I had booked it was a monsoon, so I pulled out and carried sailing down the M40 without the Warwick Visit. The next time I am up north I am going to make the trip, was a real shame, but the only modification that could be made to a V8 in those conditions would be a couple of Mercury 225 Optimax Outboards!
Yum, Vantage Vantage, I can feel my wallet straining to get out of my back pocket, although saying that I am quite happy with the performance of mine. I was quite happy with my 3.6 996 C2 and found the extra power from the Turbo a waste, so stayed as I was. I think I prefer having to really spank a car to get the best out of it rather than having more power than you can really use on an English B road, and my track day attendance has gone down to nearly zero these days due to other commitments.
I must push that Goodwood thing with them, sounds much more local to me, and I know the track very well so will be able to spank it good and proper, also the roads round there are far better than the roads round Warwick!

Guys - don't forget AM's own 'R' version (or whatever they'll call it) is definately go for next Spring(ish). With more power from an enlarged engine it may be the thing to wait for? Dealers are already scheduled in for a jolly to try the car - in Spain I think.
I could be tempted back to the fold, but am seriously enjoying the GT3 at the moment, it really is an awesome driving tool, yesterday despite the hot weather it was pulling like a jet on afterburner, whilst also being very "touchy feely"! Good thing there were no 430's around I'd have sucked them into the front air takes without taking breath !!Back on the AMV8R, much will depend on price & supply for me, my sensible side already feel bad about investing £85k of my hard earn't cash into a depreciating asset, if they start to add £10k to the Vantages price it will be knocking on the door of £100k with a few options!

Glad you're still loving the beetle - as you can imagine I spend most of my time in the Fezza keeping well to the left and worrying about when a bespoilered German beast will appear in the mirror before dusting me!

Agreed. Over £100k - or anywhere near frankly - is too rich for this car IMO. Blimey that's nearly lightly used F430 money!
100k only if you flog them your current "it car" I did have a brief look at 430 prices after your rave & the one I saw at the airport(ok, ok say NOTHING!) BUT they were all about 120k+ even the 2 year old ones & I simply can't see that myself being a certified value merchant!Pugsey said:

You are very wise but I fear the approach will be too rapid for your red carbuncle to take evasive action, remember you have been warned Grant3 said:

Seriously the V8 Roadster hitting the £100k barrier was the end for me - it really isn't worth that - lets face it the only thing it does better than a £45k Boxster is look good..........

Very slippery slope that argument which will end up with you driving a Panda 100HP!Edited by Pugsey on Saturday 11th August 11:08

...V8 IS pricey though....
Depends how much you pay for one I guess Didn't pay list for mine and considering what else there is out there, I actually thought it was sensibly priced when you consider the subjective aspects that purchasing a car of this nature inevitably involves.
Any S/R/"Vantage Vantage" version or whatever could be worth a reasonable premium. It depends what they do with it. 40bhp increases wouldn't cut it though for sure.
Add 100-150bhp into the mix, take out some weight, make sure the brakes can still cope etc and then perhaps add some "Works Service" style mods to the interior to lift that (e.g. scrap the parts bin switch gear on the centre console, make the whole centre console out of something different, give wider choices on the leather treatments etc) and I reckon the car could easily live with the likes of the F430...
as soon as you start the performance/£ discussion then we'd all be driving Mondeos everyday and Ariel Atoms at the weekend
The V8 isnt cheap, but if they can do 450bhp/350lbft with a light pressure charger, and keep the price below £100k (with options - say £90K base) for the coupe, Id be first in line to buy one. Im really happy with the overall package, but sure, more power is always good.
I just use mine daily as an everyday car (about 15-20K a year), and I cant think of anything else that offers the same combination of character, performance, daily practicality etc ...sure I could buy any Porker I wanted, but Ive never been a fan (nothing to do with the capability of the cars - they are engineering masterpieces) the R8 is very capable but I dont like the look of it either...what other 2 seater sports cars are there that offer the same all round combo...I cant think of any?
If the V8 isnt worth £100K with 450 bhp in it, then the DB9 is even worse and the Vanquish/DBS is outrageous VFM ...similar to Lambos I guess where the extra £60-70K you need for V12 over a V10 doesent equate to the extra performance offered
so then we go back to one of the earlier comments - once you are up into this price bracket you arnt really buying with your head, but your heart

Knowledgeable as you are I know your F430 comment was a wind up so I won't rise to the bait but...........dream on.
