I'm just about to go into battle with AM re the excessive stone chips on my DB9.

Can anyone who has concerns about their car (any model) please let me know.

Thanks

Id be interested to know how you get on with claiming it under warranty. I know these new water based paints are quite soft (same problem on my Lotus) ...but the Vantage seems even worse...Ive done 10K miles in 3 months since I bought my used one...it had a couple of chips before...now the front bumper, bonnet and upper rear arches are peppered with white undercoat showing through (black car)

I wish Id had armourfend fitted....I will be looking at getting it sprayed sometime soon and film put on frown

edit to add: I cant really see them doing it under warranty....I mean how can you prove you havnt tracked the car/been on a gritty airfield etc ..and if they did do it then surely the flood gates would open with all owners who have chips after a year trying to get theres done (me in included!) wink

Good luck if you do decide to go for it.

My dad managed to get his V8 Vantage chips taken care of under warranty, it was a bit of a battle and they said they won't be doing it again. Not sure if they will stand by this but they ended up painting most of the car and had it for many weeks.

Anyway good luck with it.

I can see them considering it on a V8V for the rear wheel arches which seem to be a problem without the front "mud guards" but if it's on the bonnet it's simply a problem common to all sports cars with low, sloping designs(and painted with the new water based paints). Very common problem on Ferrari's. Experienced owners learn to not follow cars in front too closely or to get one of the protective plastic coverings.

I noticed in the dealers the other day, that on the newer cars they have in there (3 months old) ..they all have armourfend on the rear arches that goes up to the line...twice as high as the stuff on my own car..which is where mine is peppered.

Mud flaps on a V8V is the way to go.

Be interesting to see if you get anywhere on the warranty/factory discussion. But I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Washed the V8 today and noted that, despite full armourfend kit, I still end up with stone chips on the wings behind the headlamps. One each side so it's nicely balanced. At the end of the day, short of covering the whole car in plastic I think it's just gonna happen.

what is the paint on the bumpers like?
What are the headlamp leneses and screen like?

Run a soft pencil over that glass and se if it is pitting also?

Everything below the lights is armourfended. No marks on the lenses. One screen mark which I heard when the stone hit, but it's a pin prick size. Can't work out these two on the wings; they must have been real glancing blows as the profile is pretty horizontal

probabaly from stones flicked out by cars that you are overtaking redface(

It's good opportunity to learn how to properly fill, wet-flat and polish the chips out yourself!
