I have always admired the DB9 and up until now have not really been able to justify or simply afford the car.

However, now having examined the pennies I am encouraging myself to bite the bullet and go for it. I saw a beautiful Obsidian black with black leather car at Lancaster in Reading yesterday with the sportpack which listed at about 120k.

I am probably going to buy the car through my company and therefore the lease / contract company will have to worry about the residuals.

My question is, now that the car has been around for 3/4 years, is there better places to put 120k. Don't get me wrong I love it and it would be a dream fulfilled, but my head is asking me whether it might be a bad investment now that the rush has died down so to speak.

When you look at what you can buy for that sort of money, I just wanted to err on the side of caution before committing myself.

MMMmmmm, decision decsions.

Yes there are better places to put the money. Inflation linked gilts would be a start. But you can't drive those.

Seriously, you will drop a ton of money, so if that concerns you, stay away.

You will also have a ton of fun. So it sort of comes down to how much your fun is worth.

Will it be worth more or less than a Bentley, Lambo or Ferrari bought for similar money? Who knows (anyone who says they do is lying, BTW)?

Currently 430s are holding their moeny very well but if sub-prime implosion puts the kybosh on city bonuses, they are going to fall hard.

I know what you mean though. Overall it heart over head everytime. I was just a litle concerned that there may be better things to weigh in on than a DB9. Maybe I should get used, but I fancy the idea of a new one and the black/black sportpack combo does it for me.

Im not really too keen on the 430 as I will need to use the car most days and do about 12k a year in it.

The "sensible" compromise is to buy used with a chunk of depreciation gone, its still the same car & if you are worried about the number plate visit the DVLA-Som!

If you like the sound of Grant's "sensible" option, then HWM have a 2 year old Black/Black coupe with 6,500 miles on it for £90k. Bit old for the Sport Pack, but worth considering.

And, in my experience, HWM are far, far better to deal with than Reading.

Yes and no. Sub-prime mortgages are where US lenders have given 100% mortgages to people to whom you wouldn't entrust with the price of a stamp. This is fine as long as the US housing market is going up. But it isn't, it is falling and these housebuyers are defaulting. However the real rub is that the lenders sold on these loans to banks who repackaged them and sold them to hedge funds, pension funds and insurance companies. They all are currently trying to make-believe that this toxic waste has value when the bid is zero. Roughy $72billion has been lost... If they recognise that the bid is zero then a lot of people are in a lot of trouble. If a lot of people are in trouble then lending to solid businesses will stop - and we will have a recession.

Thanks I an - I will give them a shout for some quotes and compare running a used one privately against running it through the business.

The trick then is presumably to do the contract deal now before this sub-prime thing and everything else hits the fan and be around to buy the car from the contract hire company. They must sell it somewhere and BCA seems a good bet. There must be some nice second hand ones around though, and if this is lying in a showroom has the d-word been discussed?

Not only has the D wod not been discussed, when on two occasions I ahve asked them for the price, once me and again through the guy I get may cars through, no-one could confirm the OTR price. Im not even sure they are trying to sell it. Besides I like the HWM one that Ian pointed out earlier.

Is there anything missing from that spec that I should be aware of?

I like the Black/Black combo, but could this be bad news? should I be looking at a silver / grey with contrasting interior?

Only slightly O/T.

I have Black/Black on a V8 Vantage and the only issue is stone chips with hoplessly light undercoat - for re-sale it's considered a great combo.

In my experience with them this is either because they don't actually know or because they are trying some dodgy "Arfur Daley" sales tactic.

Only if you can't afford to have someone else clean your car daily.

It's a stunning, STUNNING combo when clean. But looks way worse dirty and it is always dirty.

PS Second the HWM recommendation. Top drawer (and make Ferrari main dealers look very bad - mind you, Arfur Daley could do that easily enough).

Think I picked my car up a week after Ian.

Brian's a lovely bloke at HWM.

Evening All

I went through the "should I shouldn't I" 18 months ago.

Amazingly my missus told me to stop fannying about and get one.

I now have a black with cream interior DB9 which gets used everyday.

I can honestly say it was worth every penny.

Stop mucking about and get one ordered. My top tip.......ring around for a cancelled order. I only waited 6 months for an 07 car to my spec.

Enjoy!!

Im now going down the route of used ( and early) to minimise depreciation etc. I have seen a snow shadow grey car in Birmingham. I havent seen another in this colour, is anyone familiar with the colour and how it looks before I traipse up there? All the pics I have are in the showroom under showroom lights.

It has black int, 19" wheels and is 76k.

also looking at this....seems good value for the mileage. Are there any major differnces in the model years? I understand that the seats were changed recently.

Try Martin Hollywood sales manager at Aston Martin (Lancaster)Cambridge, I'm nothing to do with him/them but he is a very helpful, straight, hard working chap! If you tell him what you are looking for/price point I'm sure you will find his input of use.
He was ace with us, not just with the original purchase, but also when it came time to sell the car, now that is rare, top guy! 0870 413 7406.

Another HWM vote from me...... I've actually never bought from them (yet), but dealt with them a fair bit - their DP is a very good guy, and they are in a different stratrosphere than the moron Ferrari main dealer nearby (you know who they are). HWM aren't pushy in the slightest, but know their cars and are good at helping you choose one not ram one down your throat.
