V8V Brake Squeak
Discussion
Am being told by dealership that my Vantage brakes are prone to squeak as they need to be kept warm by hard braking before it will stop. This can be an issue as there is not always the opportunity to slam on the anchors without someone hitting you up the A55 or criticisng you in some verbal or other manner.
Basically the squeak happens all the time at low speed and has become an embarrassment in traffic or car parks. I've insisted and it's booked back in to have the pads checked, but wondered if others have had this problem. I'm pretty sure I've had DB9's and Vantages pull up in my vicinity and not heard the sound of a dental drill in action, but then again maybe they've just been driving hard and making full use of the ABS.

the pads on the V8 are a differenet compound - they are Pagids...they squeak like this on all cars...theres nothing wrong with them, I have the same on my Elise
you need to bed them in properly from new - a few stops from 30mph, then 70mph and hold the pedal for a few secs hard...that will sort it out
if you just potter around town for a few weeks you may find it comes back as the pads glaze...so a few hard stops will cure it
they are great pads and very fade resistant on track
..there will be no dealer "fix" as theres nothing wrong with them...you could change to something less aggressive I guess
edit to add some links - these are for the race pads...the OEM fitment on the V8 are black compound RS4-2-2s I think, but you get the drift

Thanks for all the advice chaps. I'll go out tonight and find somewhere to do the stops. I take it the 30mph ones I need to completely stop, then the 70's I just need to brake hard from say 70 down to 40 ?Sounds like fun
you just need to find a clear stretch of road, get up to 30mph, brake gently a couple of times to a standstill, then do the same from 50mph, then a couple more from 70mph, then do a couple of emergency stops say from 50mph..that should clean them up
so do a few stops to get some heat into them, then some proper stops...sorted

are you into the whole wet tyre look? the reason i ask is that i always had a can of that spray on stuff at hand to keep tyre walls super glossy and always had bad squeaky brakes.someone told me to stop using sprays as the stuff would invariably get all over the disks and pads and cause the noise.got tyre gel instead and the problem receeded after about a week(this was on a chimera by the way)not had any problems with the 4 or 5 cars since.that said i have had my v8 new since march and have now covered about16oo miles and every now and again notice slow speed squeak like everyone else here.its so infrequent however it hasnt troubled me unduly
Mine had been squealing in the same manner for over a year. Problem reported at 2 days old and through to the current mileage of 5000 ish, despite the dealer trying to manually deglaze on several occasions to the factory instructions. Driving habits previously did nothing to change the situation. I did notice however the squeal went in damp weather driving, or after car washing. There is now a factory warranty fix which is a shim that is installed to alter the resonance frequency. Mine modified at no cost 6 weeks ago and been ok so far....fingers crossed.
