Just seen some pics of the rear seats in a DB7 Volante, that don't appear to have the bulge between the rear seats as per the coupe.
Actually looked to have more space for little legs than a coupe.
Is this accurate or a distorted photo?

If anyone lives near Nuneaton and has a DB7, I'd appreciate being able to look in more detail if I can get stuff in such as golf gear, trolley, baby stuff etc.
What would be most useful is being able to compare a Coupe Vs Volante side by side.

Equally if anyone would like to week-swap with my 996 Turbo for a few days or a week(obviously insurance and proof of ownership etc will need to be sorted out) I would be interested to see if I could live with one as a daily drive.

Cheers guys

I have just exchanged a 996 for a DB7 drophead. Initially I ordered a DB9 drophead on the basis of seeing a pre-production model at a motor show, but when it arrived I found that the rear seat space was much reduced, so I re-examined DB7's which I already knew to have more rear space than an DB9.

As I understand it, the bulge between the rear seats in DB7's is the Premium Sound Pack. This is extra speakers, bass box and stuff that Aston didn't want to put in the boot, since it would have prevented anyone from getting a set of clubs in the boot. It is not exclusive to either coupes or Volantes but it seems that most owners paid the extra £2 k for it when ordering their cars.
We have a nine year old daughter with long legs so it was imperative for us to find a NON P.S.P. car. This was bloody hard to do and we had to pass up on many fine DB7 Volantes before we found one without it. Don't even think of getting a P.S.P. car and having it removed !!!!!!!!! You would pay anyone £2-3 k to have it removed and the car would be devalued by about the same sum. Insofar as the rear seat space in a 996 versus a DB7 is concerned, the jury is still out on that one, as it is on the matter of the boot space, although if the 996 is a C4, then the Aston wins hands down.

Thanks for that Steve, sounds logical now.
Must assume from that, that the pic I saw of the car has no Premium Sound System.

As you have had the 996 as well .....
I find that I can fit quite a lot into the back when I pull the front seat forward .... there's a lot of space in the back, providing you can get the ting in the door and behind/past the front seat to utilise it.

Although I could use another car, I would really like to be able to put the golf gear in the car (Stewart Golf Trolley & Tour Bag).

I tried to fit the BABY seat in the back of a DB7 and there was not as much space as the 996. However, she'll be in a small forward facing seat soon which doesn't seem to take up as much space front to back as the lie down rear facing seat - so SHOULD fit in the Aston by my reckoning !!!

That's why I would like to try to get the stuff in ... to know one way or another. Will look for a local dealer.

Just to clarify - Do you think that there is less/more/same space in the rear of a DB7 Volante compared to the Coupe?

Thanks,

PS

Glad to of help, amigo ! I never looked at any coupes, so really couldn't judge the space differential in the back, if one exists, that is !
Cheers

Looks to be about the same amount of space to me. I haven't seen any DB7 coupes without the rear hump.

Have you considered taking the rear seats out entirely and having a parcel shelf installed?

I managed to convince my wife I should trade my Lotus for DB7 Volante a few years ago as the Aston was a family car.

My first DB7 Vantage Volante was an auto with a big hump between the rear seats but could still fit two forward facing child seats. My 4 year old was fine but my 2 year old suffered a bit as his legs weren't long enough to get under the seat in front of him so he sat with his feet a bit squahed.

I now have a manual with no hump and my youngest is 4. Both children now fit well, one in a full child seat and one on a booster.

Thanks for replies guys ...

VirginiaUSA:
Taking rear seats out is not really an option for me, as the idea of getting more space is for my little girl (now 6 months).
Although .... If I fitted straps as per Ferrari 550, I suppose I could strap her down !!!

Nice work convincing the wife on the change ... although I dare say it wasn't that hard once she saw the cars.
Your 'experiences' with cars seats is of huge interest to me as this is EXACTLY the situation I am in and will face for the next few years.
Do you have any pics of the kids in the back, or the seats to show space.
That would be really useful.Have you had the same car for the 2 years?

I'm just in that limbo stage now.
Pretty much set heart on Aston, then saw a Bentley GT and there is so much more space in the back and build/cockpit quality was absolutely fantastic. Then a mate came round last night and he called me a c*** and said I should go for the Aston every time, no discussion ha ha !!!

I would use the car every day and do circa 15-20k per yr.
(And yes I know how much I will lose, but these cars are there to be driven (IMHO).
I have put circa 40k miles on the 996 Turbo in just over 2 yrs and LOST circa £30k in the process!!!!

OWWW!!!!!

I have just bought a DB7 Vantage coupe - there really isn't much room in the back and I've had a cerbera! No children to deal with though...

To my understanding, all the coupes have a bulge in the centre tunnel. Many have the sub fitted there, those without the premium sound have an armrest and cubby hole, so I think you might be struggling.

My best advice would be to impose on your local dealer with clubs/baby seats etc. If he is worth his salt he will let you perform about. Most main dealers will still be able to lay there hands on DB7s.
