I noticed this the other day by accident, and I'm sure others have too. As we all know fuse 22 being pulled does a great job of releasing lots of extra noise, but the cabin of the coupe is so well dampened that all that filters through as long as the windows are up is a pretty muffled soundtrack, while everyone else outside gets the benefit.

But if you simply remove the rear parcel shelf../ my word, what a revelation! I didn't expect such a tremendous difference at all. Not only is it louder, but the detail suddenly comes pouring into the cabin... all the pops and burbles, and that hard edged note that you get in the higher revs under acceleration. Give it a try! As with Fuse 22, the parcel shelf is now permanently removed and stowed in its little slot on my car! cool

Good call. Read this, went straight out and tried it. Fantastic.
I'm not sure what all the local people thought in our small market town as I passed through though.

Were they shocked that you'd removed your parcel shelf?

I'm fortunate enough to have heard some pukka aftermarket exhaust systems for the new Astons. Pulling the fuse does improve the sound but you should think about a proper performance system.

Isnt this all going a bit MaxPower (removing fuses, removing parcel shelves ...)? You're driving an Aston not an Impreza. Whats next? Removing the far too comfy leather seats and replacing with some nice plastic mould jobbies from Halfords? biggrin

just my 2p

We're talking about a 2 seat Aston sportscar, not a GT. And one that sounds awesome. It deserves to be heard to its full potential.

I'll be keeping the seats as they are though. And the rest of it for that matter.

Incidentally, removing the parcel shelf has a "secondary" benefit in that you can get more in the boot wink

Yup! smile

This isn't about making the car louder, it's plenty loud enough with or without the fuse removed... it's about allowing much more of the detail of that sound into the cabin for the driver to enjoy. Otherwise, everyone outside the car hears it all while you sit cocooned inside the very well dampened cabin, missing out...
