Isn't it a shame when a supposedly pukka car car like the AMOC become no more telephonically approachable or user friendly than a Bombay call centre !
My sister, who has just joined them, wanted to get details of their recommended insurance scheme, and rang head office at mid morning one day last week. She was answered by a machine giving loads of different responses ( none of them dealing with insurance queries ), only to eventually find that no-one was manning any of the extensions. She was asked to leave a number where she could be called back, only to never be rung back ! One learns to expect this sort of thing from rubbish global insurance firms, but surely it cannot be beyond the wit and understanding of the people who run car clubs at national level, that their members expect a more reasonable, considerate and human response.

It may be a one off - they've always answered my queries in good time. What car does she drive? I think there are a few threads on the AMOC forum concering insurance.

They've always been more than courteous in answering any query that I had, particularly when arranging to attend an event whilst being traditionally late in applying. The AMOC site has a clear link to their insurance scheme too.

Plus they are not a call centre. They are a car club. If they are busy, then leave a message. Employing a building full if call centre executives is a bit much for one club...

Any disappointment with the administration will be more than made up for by attending some of the AMOC sponsored events. List of area reps is on their website, so she can always contact someone local, who may be a little more responsive.

Thanks for you help, everybody ! Shortly after my post was published I received a phone call from the AMOC offering the assistance that was required. As it happens, my sister ( whose company car is a Vantage ) had by then already obtained insurance from PerformanceMarque.

For what it is worth, I am positive that HUGE discounts are presently available out there when one needs insurance, since it would appear that EVERY firm she obtained quotes from fell over themselves to beat the competition.
