Does anyone here actually think this looks even vaguely good?

Those 'side blades' are the most vulgar design idea I've seen in a long time. Does it tug at anyone's heart strings? To me so far it has pretty much the appeal and character of a fish. Probably make a great daily.

The corporate Audi nose is what bothers me about the design. They could have made it better looking without that. It also seems to force a longer front overhang than necessary.

Come on now, this is the Aston forums... we're supposed to be gentlemen of good taste! wink

Jokes aside, it looks to me a bit like one of these:

That's been sat on in front by an elephant, and then an axe-murderer took to the front, to try and make it look more like this:

I think it looks brilliant, agreed it isn't beautiful & classy like an Aston, but it does shout "PURPOSEFUL" & supercar, in fact something refreshingly different rather another retro throwback!

To be clear, I think it is good looking - I just think that they could have made it **better** looking.

My point is, why is it in the Aston Martin forum.

Good post. I cancelled my order having driven one. Yes it looks EXACTLY like a slightly sleeker, flatter TT and the 'blades' are very cumbersome. Yes EVO have got it round one circuit in a very fast time but the driving experience left me cold. Opening the barn and seeing an Audi grill attached to a strangly unexciting looking car just wasn't going to do it for me. More this years fashion statement than anything else it'll be yesterdays news soon and cheap as chips. Five year old AM or Porsche? - still a lovely car. Five year old R8 - just an old Audi.

Because its the new kid on the block & costs about the same an AMV8, so stands direct comparison!

No it doesn't, they are totally different cars.

Aston has soul, whilst maybe not as dynamically good as the A8, it's a totally different car.

I think it's safe to say Audi will be targetting Aston owners, among others, with this car. Quite a few of us own or have owned other interesting cars as well as an AM, and so may be potential buyers, and the general populace here has shown a fairly balanced view on various cars in the past while clearly being of good taste as AM owners -- so I guess I was just curious to see other similar minded peoples perceptions of this car wink

It would take me a few hours to go through the cars I would sooner spend (up to) 95k on than the R8.

I got close and personal with one at Geneva this year, I really thought it was ugly and that they could have done better, but I am sure it is a grower. I called it Audi's NSX, technically brillant, but you woundn't would you!

I have been very impressed by the road tests and if I had a 997 I would be looking at it very seriously, but as I have a Vantage, it hold no interest for me potential purchase wise....would love a few laps in one tho, or a country road blat as I to all accounts it is truely an amaisin car.

As the saying goes...wake up & smell the coffee, I love the Aston brand & had an AMV8 up until a few months ago, but if you believe that car enthusiast don't consider all the options at a price point then I am surprised. You may not, but most will when spending their hard earnt £80k+!!!

I love my RS4 and Vantage.
That is a perfect car combination, I just cannot justify to the wife £40k over the value of our WRX Wagon for the RS4...but I am determinted to do it...

Look, it may be a good car, but its sole purpose is to make the Audi TT look a little more credible, because it has a similar kind of look. Its a 'baby Lamborghini' and they are probably selling it below cost solely to boost the sales of the TTs.
