I received a letter this morning from my dealer asking me to put money down against my DBS position (No2 on list). I am now in a real dilemna.

I have had a V8 Vantage since January 2006 and I have very much enjoyed it, and I love the look of the DBS in Casino Royale. My dealer tells me that the car is going to be in the region of £170,000 (I am sure this is before I start adding options) but this is all they are telling me at the moment. I am worried that the price is a little high compared to the competition (599 and LP640) and I just don't know if I want to spend this sort of money without knowing more about the car.

I am definately ready to consider changing the Vantage, and I think I need to chose between DBS, Gallardo or maybe even LP640.

Does anybody else know any more information or have any opinions.

£170,000 seems a lot especially that there is going to be a successor to the Vanquish, how much will that be? I'd still get it, and maybe sell it when you get it because you will get a massive premium if your no2 on the list

If you're that high up the list (do you have an idea of delivery date yet?), buy it, drive it a month and sell it.

Hate condoning flipping, but there you go.

Try one of the others when you've sold it (though IMO Gallardos and LPs are two totally different league cars).

BTW, 599s are much closer to 200k with options, and currently going for well above this I believe. Of all the big cars of the moment, if I had that sort of money to fritter it would be what I would buy (new of course - there are plenty of other used motors I'd buy in prefernce, starting with a Miura).

Id have to agree with that - get it and drive it...sell it if you dont like it after a few months and maybe make a few quid

as for car choice - i guess it depends on what you want to do with it...I love the AMV8 and Gallardo sized cars as you can actually use them on our roads (I like to drive on B and A roads) ..having driven a Diablo on the road in the past, i wouldnt contemplate trying to get down a B road in one...or remotely use it daily.

If its a weekend car then Id get a Gallardo Superleggera myself

I do love the DBS, but again, too big for my taste/useage pattern...If I had 180K to allocate to cars, Id have a V8 for daily use and the Gallardo S for the weekends

Go away.

Besides, I'm 6'4", not 6'3". And an inch can make all the difference (so you've been told)

Have there not recently been rumours that the DBS will indeed be the successor to the Vanquish? I'm not in a position to buy or indeed drive any of them , but if you'll pardon the uneducated comment, it seems to me that there is a big value judgement to be made here. The cars are probably all going to be brilliant but which do you really want? The other factor seems to be the assumption that the DBS is just going to be a tweaked DB9 that James Bond happens to have driven. Has it been tested in its final form? I would suspect that it is going to be a great deal more than that, but there must be somebody out there who has a much more accurate idea of this than me.

I am no 1 with a UK dealer for a DBS but I too remain undecided. It is a big premium over the DB9 and some of the detailing is a bit OTT - too "max power". It is also not entirely clear if it will have rear seats / TT2 and a few other things that I have enjoyed on my DB9.

Also, I hear that there will be a Vanquish replacement, though not for a couple of years. Then there are rumours that there will be a mid-engined Aston.

Ho hum...

The longer it goes on the less I want one. I have a letter of intent in like many on here, bought a 007 DBS numberplate just in case I wanted to put it on, but that was months ago......

Unless its a LOT more than a reworked 9, I don't see how it fetches this kind of money without taking a bath on the resale. A bath the size of an ocean....

It struck me from the imagery that we have seen of the DBS so far, that it is almost more of a 911 GT3 type version of the DB9. Lots of alcantara, flared bodywork, bucket racing seats, tuned engine, helmet holder, etc. Perhaps it will be the road going version of the DBR9?

There seems to be a fairly consistent view coming from most people regarding the DBS. I have decided against one of the early cars as I think there is a significant chance that it may suffer some serious depreciation. I am sure that the car will be very good, but will it be good enough?

It will be an exceptional car, with chassis dynamics improved over the DB9. I am watching this from the sidelines, waiting for the Vanquish replacement.
