DB7 or V8 Vantage?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Have scraped together enough sheckles to run to a DB7 vantage, although I do want a manual with all trimmings and sports exhaust etc etc. The question is, do I go for one now, or hold out for a V8V towards the end of next year (prices down and more wonga saved!)?
Cheers, chaps!

The DB7 is better looking (than any car imo) and about as quick as a V8V (both do about 180 mph and the 0-60 in under 5 seconds.
Personally I would probably imagine the V8V is a much better car, but a 2003 DB7 GT for about £55k isn't that bad a deal at all.
I mean you could save roughly £35,000-£45,000 and still have f'in great fun with a V12 435BHP DB7!
Did you know for a little less than the price of a V8V you could pick up a Vanquish from probably early 2003?

Indeed - tempting. Although having had an XKR, I was deeply saddened to have seen exactly the same air con/radio central panel in a car that was 3 times the price. There is a reason for that free-fall residual!

This is likely to be heresy on this board, but it never did it for me.
The front's quite clumsy (lights don't look right) and I'm afraid all I ever think of when I see the rear is Mazda 323F. The side profile's too Jag XK (though admittedly slightly neater).
The later models took what the DB7 started and really sorted it IMO. The eventual replacements have a tough job.
V8 Vantage, overall it's a better car particularily in the handling department. The only place I would give a slight nod to the DB7 is in the engine deparment as there is nothing better than an Aston V12. I'm pretty sure the Vantage will be more reliable, at least that is what I am hearing from the AM mechanics.
As far as looks are concerned the DB7 is beautiful, particularily from the front but as a whole I like the Vantage better, certainly it is more "masculine". I think the back half of the V8 is perfect and I think the front half of the DB9 is my idea of perfect.

Not necessarily. I was completely gutted when at Blackbushe two weeks ago an 03 DB7 GT went through. It looked very tatty with key'ed panels, curbed wheels, flat tyres, etc and was a horrific flat blue colour, so certainly needed quite a few £k's spending to sort it out properly. But it still gauls me to report (as I wasn't there to buy it and didn't have the funds) that it went for just £37,500. Some trader is going to polish it up and put it on their forecourt for over £50k. But if joe-public punter had been looking for one, they would have got an incredible deal that day.wokkadriver said:

Early DB7s have pretty much flattened out in terms of depreciation. Buy a DB7 now, spend the money you will waste on depreciation of whatever other car you would drive on servicing and save the rest, and then revisit the situation in 18 months time.
You could be dead in 18 months. Get the car YOU want!!

Funnily enough, this is almost exactly what I am now planning to do...
Will keep you all posted as to when something shiny appears on my driveway!!
Cheers
