I've just had a call from my local dealer,A month or so ago i asked them to keep an eye out for a v8 vantage. they have just been offered a car they sold new in september. The question is HOW MUCH SHOULD I PAY????
they have not bought the car yet so they are looking to offload it before they part with the cash which is fair enough. Though i feel i should be getting a good deal as they will not have to have the car hanging around.
spec is this 2006 56 black and black with pretty much every option and only 2000 miles.sounds very nice. does anyone have this months trade price for this car.
cheers martin thomas

Well, Autotrader is full of 2006 cars up for £72-73K, but that's with a dealer profit and before negotiation, so I say about £67-68K

Is it an 07 model?

And does it genuinely have "every option"?

Mail me if you want as have been doing a lot of looking at these recently

the car was registered in sept 06 on a 56 so not sure if it is an 07 my. but the option list went something like this.19 inch wheels sat nav upgraded sound bright grill power mirrors memory seats piano black trim big stitching and i'm sure there was more but i did not write it down.being on a 56 plate i was thinking the dealer would be offering about 73k to the owner does that sound right or do you think they will be offering him more??
cheers martin.

I *think* memory seats is only an option on 07s...

With bluetooth, cruise, heated screen and seats on top of that lot it'd likely be the other side of 80k on a forecourt. Not sure what the dealer would bid though - probably higher than 73k, but not sure by how much.

Why not call a dealer and ask for a price on "your" car?

Which Autotrader are you looking at?

Cheapest 06 private is 72,750. 2.5kmls

Cheapest 06 trade is 72,995. 13.5kmls.

There are then a mix of trade and private at around the 75k mark. And I cannot see you getting any of these for 67-68k.

And these are all 06 models.

Cheapest 07 spec is 79.1k. Marked as private but ad sounds trade. Good spec though.

Cheapest trader 07s with good spec, colour and low miles seem to be 82k+. I would say getting 4k off these would be very good going, so 78k. But that may be very hard.

I suspect the 08 model year changes may push values down a bit harder (there'll be circa 2k cars in the UK I believe by then), and the Vantage S (as and when released) will do more. But I'm not convinced you're going to get an 07 car with decent options, low miles etc for 73k or less for a few months yet.

Think I'm wrong ? You try trading your AMV8 back to a dealer and see what they offer.

Hint: Sit down first.

As I mentioned before, those prices are before negotiation and include a dealers margin.

How much do you think a dealer is putting across a £74K car ? A good £5-6K IMO.

How much room for negotiation do you think there is ? A good £2-3K in my experience.

I've been offered 06 cars for sub £70K so I know what I'm talking about.

So, OK, maybe I was out by £1K on where the main group of 06 cars are priced, but my valuation still stands. Besides, sticker price isn't the sale price.

Parkers, who regularly OVER value cars, say this:

www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=31551&plate=81&buysell=buy

£66K is what the dealers are going to be offering.

Sorry if you don't like what you hear, but it doesn't change the facts.

We went through this before when I sold mine just three weeks ago, got £70k, for a 5k 55 plater, this was the best bid but had two others just under this!!

For a nice condition low mileage well specified car they are still fetching good money!

I've just traded a 06 2800 mile car with high spec to a main dealer for more than that

Right, but you guys were in the business of selling your cars, looking for the highest price.. and after some negotiation, you got it.

The original poster is looking to buy a car, so naturally he should start low and work his way up.

Errrm. This was trader to trader.

I would think you'll rarely get a more realistic trade price

No one's doubting these cars will lose money. But a 56, 07 model fully spec'd car will not be had for anywhere near the money you're noting.

By all means the OP should try and find one. But I reckon he'll be looking a good 6mths to start getting close. Even if the dealer wants to move it on quickly, he's going to know what the going rate is.

i think i agree with GT2 but it all depends on the dealer - their stock levels etc
when I sold my V8 4 months ago it was an 06, 8 months old, and I struggled to get a bid from a dealer for more than 74k.

Looks a good deal to me, I believe they have had it stock for a while (at Worcester before?), so would imagine there isn't much margin in it at that new price.

GT-2 man I thought you were interested in an AMV8?

Just goes to show we all have different tastes, because I love Titanium with Caspian blue interior, pure class!
