V8 has just come back from an annual service, she is absolutely flying, in addition the new thinner gearbox oil means a slicker shift.
I couldn't resist a quick snap before the winter grime takes hold too much, wish I was a better photographer doesn't really capture how awesome these cars look!

Wow. Just stunning! What color is this? It looks like Porsche Polar Silver in this light.

Cheers amvntage, it's Titanium silver (with blue interior), the paint finish actually sparkles (when clean) in direct sunlight, but today is dark, damp & dreary!

I love it. How is the new gearbox oil? I had this same tranny in my Maserati. Same second gear issue. You would figure that they would have fixed this by now.

The gearbox is better with the new oil, but it is still clunky, particularly when cold, mind you all part of the individual feel of the car.
How did you like the Maserati, I have always liked the look of them, did you have a 3200 or a 4200? With a brand new replacement for the 4200 out next year, it could be one to watch!

4200 GT 2002. It was a great car. Lovely sound, nice back seats. It was great to be able to take the kids around in.

It was always in the shop however. I owned it for about 18months. I only put about 6K miles on it, and I drove it as often as I could.

I understand the Gransport is the real deal however. It was a tough decision between the Gransport and the AMV8.

I actually spoke to Aston Martin HQ to check this out as my dealer told me the same as you guys when I asked for it to be included within my annual service.

Head office said the new specification oil had been approved but was currently only available by warranty claim. This means the dealer has to verify the problem is particularly bad on your car & then get an individual approval from Aston HQ to fit the new oil under warranty. So it isn't available on general release, the indication was they were waiting for a suitable bulk supplier before rolling the new oil out as general spec. sometime in the new year! That is what they told me anyway!

It has definitely made my gearbox better (I couldn't even select 2nd when cold) but it is still obstructive when cold, so it is more an improvement rather than a complete cure!
Still love it though..........

I promised to give an update on the new gearbox oil.
Having had a chance to put a good few miles on the car since the new oil was put in, the gear change does seem to have got even better than first reported as time has gone by. It is still notchy (this gearbox will never be slick!) but the modification has been very worthwhile & definitely offers a considerable/noticeable improvement, particularly when the car is cold. The only downside is since the service I have had a strong smell of oil when the car is hot, but assume that is because they have spilt some & it is taking time to burn off (he says hopefully)!

Hi Grant

Mine is in having my snagging list dealt with, I enquired about the new gear box oil and the comments are "we are currently awaiting a second modified oil to be released from Aston Martin – they put the first one on hold, I guess that they had some reliability issues – this should be with us next month so it will be something that we can improve but not on this visit unfortunately". So I have to wait for mine..For interest my snagging list is:

1. Noise from Fan Belt Pulley, it happens all the time, hot/cold/wet/dry. I have been oiling it and this helps a little and then it comes back, I have noticed one wear on the fanbelt and on the passenger side pulley.
2. It is very stiff when cold changing gear, I have heard that if this is the case Aston with authorise changing the gear box oil for a better one, can this be done?
3. When the seat is in the wife's position (fully forward but low) the handbrake light done not go off and when you drive off it warns that the handbrake is on, but if you move the seat back a little it goes out, so I am assuming the cable is being prevented to fully release or something. Please can you resolve.
4. When I have a passenger in, the passenger seat starts to squeak quite badly, no matter how forward they make it (so it is not leather rubbing on leather) it seems to get worse the longer you drive.
5. Both speaker housing in the rear (just by the seatbelt) tend to rattle from time to time.
6. There is an LED or two out in the centre brake light, can this be resolved
7. On the plastic panels (with the paint protector on) just at the rear lower sill in-between the door and the wheel you can see a visible slight crease, this seems to be some sort of manufacturing defect and I have seen this on other V8's and it happening on both sides.
8. Foggy lights - they are replacing the clusters as mine are so bad they headlight heat does not burn it off

Expecting her back next week for some winter fun! Can't wait to give back the X-trail Aston Assist game me, I do feel very disliked and un politically correct driving a 4X4. Although I do feel like stating to people "you think the carbon footprint of this 4X4 is bad, you should see the carbon footprint of my proper car!" but shhhhhh lets hope the greenies never pick up on sports cars eigh..

I hope they nail them all, they didn't fix my rear parcel shelf rattle, must confess rattles & squeaks can drive one nuts, but the Aston is no different to other cars, every Porker I owned had various rattles as standard! Best of luck with the list.

A happy healthy & prosperous new year to you as well Pugs, a few more months & it will role reversal with me (hopefully) loving the GT3 but missing the Aston & reading about how amazing your new Roadster is!

Grant - you will love the GT3 - how can you not love something this quick BUT pin me in a corner and ask me which car I'd have if I was going to have to stay with it long term and I'm amazed to say it's the Aston. Ok, it's 5% less of a drivers car than even the 997S let alone the GT3 but as a day in day out over all ownership prospect it pulled all the right strings for me and going back to Porsche seems a bit cold and clinical. Maybe outright speed isn't everything. Mind you watching an RS4 and a 996Turbo dissappear in my wake - on wet roads! - yesterday was a very special moment. Thing is special moments seemed more frequent and easier to come by in the Aston. Mustn't grumble though

I have just collected my V8V after the first service , 700+ sovs !! yikes I took along an HID kit I bought for the 360 I had last year hoping the franchise would fit it replacing the main beams, this they declined stating the factory advised against as interference with the existing electrical system (CAM/BUS)could do unrepairable damage , coupled with voiding the warranty .Apparently my car has been fitted with a booster to aid the main beam halogen illumination, when I pointed out the system isn`t as good as that of my 996turbo , dark mutterings occurred suggesting I should tell the factory their system is inferior.

On the plus side, there was an upgrade that was "flashed" via the port, this has resulted in a change to the management system , I feel the car picks up faster than previously but this is probably me wanting it to feel different, I sense it is therefore it is !
Loan car was a Jaguar S Type V6 Diesel auto, turned off the traction control and used it manually , I was impressed , lots of mid range grunt and quite grippy .

One last comment.... £100 for oil ?

I've got HIDs on my V8 but they still aren't as good as the 996 Turbo, but the TT does have bi-xenons as standard!
I agree about the price of oil though, ridiculous, Mikial think yourself lucky with the screw in tyre & wiper replacement mine ended up at £900+!
The new flash software is interesting, do tell more?

I can`t enlighten you regarding the software Grant, only that I was informed there was such an upgrade which altered the engine management and was available for my car which was duly flashed.I can tell you it still only managed 13.3 mpg on the way home ,a 30 minute drive with no traffic lights or congestion ! The service was priced at 384.92 and balloned to over 700, also included in the total was a charge of 74.99 for the removal of a hard wired dock for a camera detection device which was in the car when I purchased.

I too suffered a puncture last week , as the rears were looking near the end of their usefulness , I ordered two replacements, they totaled 185.00 each fitted but....according to the AM franchise the originals still have 4mm left on them, must try harder !

The spread of the dipped beams were altered too and have made a difference.

I assumed the dipped beams on the 996 were HID but the mains were halogen.Have you specced bi litronics on the new GT3 ?
