Power, Beauty, Soul

i completly agree. focus on the great car ,its performance, superior fit and finish to the porsche, and the fact that on any given day you see dozens of them compared to the rare pleasure of seeing an aston. to me porsche has become the male version of the soccer moms suv.
i think they are great cars but all to common.

Gt2-man , do you actually own one or are you just the usual Porsche driver looking for a quick snipe at the new kid on the block?

When I start my car, I turn the ignition and hit the start button and usually by then only the word "Power" shows up and even that I don't notice. Perhaps you should focus more on the hand built exotic that you're sitting in than the startup message on the dash.
agreed, a little petty worrying about a two second message on start-up when your drving such a great car.

Only vaguely related to Power, Beauty and Soul but here goes....
I drove a V8 for the first time last week, along with a DB9. I wanted to buy the V8 for a number of reasons, but must admit I was totally underwhelmed by the experience. Hate saying this, because to dislike such a gorgeous car feels instinctively wrong, but its one of the worst gearboxes I've ever experienced. I'll try again when the F1-style comes out next year....
I was surprised to enjoy the DB9 more.....so am tempted by the Sportpack version at the moment until the DBS arrives in 2008.

Was it cold when you started the car? The V8 gearbox is notoriously clunky whilst cold and takes a bit of getting used to.
I had the F1 Style paddles in the DB9, but much prefer the manual box on the V8. Just my two penneth

It was cold at the start, and although it warmed up and improved I never grew to like.
As for the gardening, at least I can confirm it's not uphill.....!

I read a lot of comments re: gearbox problems concerning the V8V and wonder if it`s the users technique. I`ve driven clunky car gearboxes ( they all were back in the dark ages ) frequently and they free up as the oil etc heats up.
The gearbox/transmission on my Vantage is like a knife through butter once warmed up after about 5 miles, even before that it`s never more than "notchy" .

Mine was worse then 'notchy' from cold - pretty 'obstructive' actually from 1st to 2nd. Fine when warm although I'd never quite describe it as 'knife through butter' levels and nor were any of the other V8s I drove. I'd say a perfectly acceptable 'positive' was my impression. Thought it suited the car actually. The gearbox/transmission on my Vantage is like a knife through butter once warmed up after about 5 miles, even before that it`s never more than "notchy" .

I don't own a Porsche. I own a CL65 as it happens. Would you say you represent the "usual Aston driver" ?
I am in negotiations over an AMV8.. I shall find out later today...
(and yes Brian I am aware that it's monumentally slow compared to what I'm used to )

Hardly hand-built exotic.. even my CL has a plaque on the engine bay of from the chap (one of just 6 in Affalterbach) who put it together single handedly. I think AMV8s just have an "engine was inspected by" plaque after it's rolled of the production line now don't they ? (in Germany of all places !)
