my father had a W reg DB7 Vantage, the first one in aberdeen, think it was number 6 of the vantages made, for 3 years till he passed away, i currently have a TVR T350t, love it to bits, but i remember how great a car the aston felt at the time and it had drossed my mind to move into a db7 vantage, what are peoples thought on that switch? in terms of the two cars drivability, running costs etc etc.

cheers guys

Potentially doing the exact opposite switch at the moment...

Chalk and cheese. Cruising at 150+ in the DB7 is wonderful; nice and quiet, ice cold air-con, utterly planted. But try hustling it around twisty B roads and you'll find the nose tearing into the tarmac alarmingly quickly compared to a lightweight Tiv. Really depends what type of driving you prefer. Ideally, I'd have both. (OK, ideally it'd be two entirely different cars, but still...)

As for running costs, comparing it to the Tuscan I'd say they're very roughly comparable; wouldn't want to try running either on less than £3k a year, and would probably budget £5k to be a bit more comfortable. The 6 month servicing's been a bit painful, and at £1300 for the last one (no reparative work done), I was sulking for a few days. And the insurance has been coming in about 33% more expensive. Hmmm, thinking about it, if I'd been as unlucky with the DB7 as the Tuscan, I'd have written out a serious 5 figure cheque. Good job the engine's a little less fragile!

Yell if there's anything in particular...

Woohoo....you made my servicing bill look cheap! S'only cost me £1000 for the service

I always keep looking at Vantages There's just something about owning a V12 Aston!
Note to self - when building the new house, remember to build a bigger garage!

yes Fuel bills. hehe

Would still kill for a new DBS. And it may come to that! But after 700 miles a week of commuting, the last thing I need in the garage is a GT - taking endless A roads in my stride is "work" not "play" now. B-road sideways action is the order of the day. (And possibly a STUPIDLY tuned MG-ZT for the commute if I can move any closer to the office)
