DB9 depreciation - a question
Discussion
Many (most) of you out there are way more knowledgeable than myself when it comes of all things Aston, so I thought I'd draw on your pearls of wisdom.
I'm thinking about buying a second hand DB9, in the £86-£90k price range, and am interested in your thoughts on future depreciation. What should I expect to see by way of a drop in value were I to keep the car for:
* 2 years - with say 20,000 more on the clock
* 3 years - with say 30,000 more on the clock
Many thanks,
Gixxer

look at what happened to the gorgeous DB 7 first
only 5,000 in 10 years
the DB 9 is going to be produced by the tune of 2,500 EACH year
the rate of depreciation should be quite fast and consider the 3 year limit on the warranty. Out there each man is for himself 'cause AM ain't cheap to fix or mantain.
You can be lucky or not.
No matter: you have to be aware of the potential costs.
If you ask about depreciation you seem to be a sensible person regarding money. Can you afford to lose/spend £40,000 in 2/3 years?
If the answer is yes then just get the best DB 9 on the market and have lots of fun.

Very sensible advice aston67. I am indeed careful about money and hence have been researching running costs of a DB9. I just don't have a clue about depreciation as I have never followed the mark that carefully (other than oogling at Astons I see on the road - but that doesn't really count). I am happy with the purchase price, happy with the running costs, but just need to have some idea of what the resale value will be so as to plan for future purchases.
Cheers,
Gixxer
I had the same dilema. For me however it didnt add up at this point in my life so I bought a £45k 7 Vantage Volante instead.
Being a newbie to Astons (been a Jag man previously) it still represented a huge step up from the Jag but a five year old 7 will never lose more than about £3-5k a year from here on(which is less than most other cars in this price bracket)obviously depending on condition and mileage

if you look for good resale value there is only one DB 7 that floats my boat
the last version GT or GTA
last of the line always keep their value better (for technical and sentimental reasons)
Vantage Volante is excellent choice as well
The DB 9 will certainly hold prices better in the short-term but the law of demand and offer will prevail in the end
The DB 9 should also hold better than an equivalent V8 Vantage
The engine of the DB 7 at the end of the day is the same 12 cylinder that you will find in the Vanquish and DB 9 (with obvious differences) so you get some DB 9 feeling with retro style (not too much retro). And maybe it is possible to fit DB 9 exhaust on the DB 7 Vantage...
