For various reasons, including a new house, I have decided to sell my Vantage. I have had the car since January and have done just over 4000 miles of happy motoring. I will be very sad to see it go, but sometimes these things have to be done.

I have called round a number of AM dealers and was quite surprised that a number of them were not interested in buying it as they said they already have plenty of V8s! The dealer that I bought the car from has offered me £74k - £75k depending on condition. I must admit I am a little dissapointed having paid £87.4k for it in January.

Has anybody else sold one yet? What sort of numbers would you be expecting?

Just for info, mine is black with sandstorm interior, black carpet, mahogany wood, platinum facia and nav amongst other things.

15% depreciation in nine months... And who said the AMV8 would hold its value well due to exclusivity..!!

The lad has a pt though, AM hyped up the Vantage for a long time and they have long orders for it. The speculators got in first as per usual and made all the initial profit. It is AM's mainstay car so more of them are being produced. A lot of ppl are happily sitting on their waiting lists also, rather than rushing out to pay premiums to get their cars first because of Aston's policy of trying to produce loads of them *and* because everybody knows/thinks there is a blown one coming out and if they are in the build list for a normal one and it hasnt been built yet, they can possibly transfer to the blown car and be higher up the queue. All factors that have taken the lustre off the AMV8 2nd hand market.

10-15% depreciation is rather good, BMW M6 drivers would kill for that!

You're not comparing apples with apples: dealer sale price vs subsequent dealer trade-in price (although this is obviously the depreciation seen by the owner by taking this route).

It probably would fetch more if sold privately, and we know that the dealer is going to have it on his forecourt for about £85K ....

My friend has just got rid of his C4s Cab which he paid 68k for a year ago, Porsche offered him 49k as it needed new tyres and some other small bits i think he actually ended up with 52k.

How you like them Apples?

I must agree that the bid does seem a little harsh, it is what I would expect for a year old car (to retail at £79,950), but yours is 8 months old, maybe the fact it has done 4k, is 55 plate & the 56 is just out has valued the car lower!!?

I would do two things,

1: Try some garages outside the franchise network, specialists in high quality cars (Dovehouse, Bramshaws,Bramleys, Clive Sutton, Tom hartley, etc & any local firms you know)I have found they sometimes pay more.

2/ Retail it at a fair price privately, say £78-9k, as usual everyone is trying to get near list, ain't going to happen now it has been out for a year, so if you price fairly it may go quickly.

For what it is worth even Porsche now loose an average 20% in the first year, up from around 15% due to increased supply!

The world and his brother all seem to be trying to get list for cars like yours - and nobody will admit that they're not actually getting that. I reckon if you put it up for £79,950 it'll a)stand out and b)( more importantly) sell. Don't let it go to a dealer at silly money! I was v. lucky and sold mine at end of June for list - cheapest car I've ever run! - but frankly I would have considered it worth it if I'd lost 15 or 20 percent. Wonderful car - sorry to hear you've got to part with yours!

They are every where round where I live - why buy a car like that most likley knowing you are going to have to sell to finace a pad! Pointless just to swan around in nice motor for 7 months!

Keep it they are great cars (need another 50bhp)- cant see a dealer giving you more than 65.

Ask yourself this.... scratchchin (and this applies to any car, not just AM), how much would a dealer have to pay (trade) to put a brand new unreg V8 on his forecourt (new reg '56 remember), not even allowing for the VAT element you lost 1 second after the car was first registered........

Not pleasant but one of the (few) downsides of buying a new car.........

I am sure there's many on PH who would swap places with you though.....

Hmmm....how does that make sense for the dealer if they're offering £74k? If they then sells it for £74k+VAT he would have to sell for £87k!

Dealer only pays VAT on the difference between purchase and sale price I believe.

Which is why dealers make more money selling used cars, margins are greater with no pesky tax to pay

Jellimould Circumstances change give the man a break, what I also can't figure is why you think a dealer will only offer him £65k when AMV8Vantage says that the trade have already offered £74-75k................... a small matter of £10k!!!
