I read something interesting the other day (who knows where?) where a driver of this type took the 996 and V8 out back to back and there was only a tenth in the times. The driver said the V8 was the easier to drive of the 2 as well.

Evo did comparable lap times over 1.8 miles of the Bedford Autodromes west circuit

BMW M5: 1min.29.95secs
M3 CS : 1.29.80 (track tyres)
Porsche 997: 1.28.85
Audi RS4 : 1.28.25
Aston martin V8 : 1.26.75
BMW M6: 1.26.40
Evo FQ320: 1.26.10
996Turbo : 1.26.00
997S (sports): 1.24.60 (with optional 20mm lowered sports suspension, slip diff & PCCB ceramic brakes)

The bottom line is over nearly 2 miles of flat our driving the difference between the cars is rather small, appreciate that if you were doing 60 laps it would make big difference, but on the road !!!!!
