I thought the new V8 Vantage was only available as a manual, but at the Silverstone Classic a couple of weeks ago I parked up next to a very smart dark red Vantage with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and no standard manual gear shift. Is this the same auto that they use in the DB9 or is it the paddle shift manual as per the vanquish?

I thought the DB9 gearbox would not fit!! This is all news to me.

Auto AMV8 though... shouldn't be allowed

It was news to me too. I thought that the Vantage was manual only. Has it been available for long or was it a test car I saw?

It looked whichever way :-)

I heard it will be a F1 transmission not an automatic. Coming with the Roadster in 3rd Quarter 2007.
(F1 meaning manual box with automatic clutch and paddles. Automatic is slushbox (American term) with paddles.)

:J: - do you have inside knowledge?

The car was deep red with matt black wheels and matt black interior. It was parked very openly in the public car park. The only reason I noticed the difference was because I was being nosey and sticking my big beak up against the side window.

DB9s aren't automatic, are they? They have paddle shift F1 gear changing jobs.

It's hardly automatic. It's still the driver choosing when to change gear and in which direction.

No, DB9 is either the 6 speed manual or the 6 speed Touchtronic II ( Automatic + paddles). Only Vanquish is F1 style (manual based paddle shift) or ASM as Astons call it.

Automatic and paddles? So does that mean that it acts like a normal auto, but the driver can override the gearchange?

Apologies for shortness of replies yesterday, little bit busy at work

DB9 = Automatic with Paddles (you can shift or let the car shift.)
Vanquish S = F1 (The Car can shift but better that you do it yourself.)
Future Vantage = F1 (Ditto)
