Aston V8 rag-top spotted

Spy shots from all over the place

With the inevitability of autumn following summer, Aston Martin's roadster version of the V8 Vantage -- presumably to be called the V8 Vantage Volante -- is starting to appear on the roads in test form.

Although not officially launched, the car's been spotted in various places -- see link below for pics; they're not our copyright so we can't publish them. However, you can expect the car to appear some time in the next six months. Other than the tin-opener having been taken to the roof, the rest of the car is expected to remain the same.

However, it will reportedly cost £5,000 more than the £79,000 list price of the coupé.

Gorgeous car but I hear it will called "V8 Roadster" not Volante as the Volante name is being restricted to the V12 models (DB9 etc.).

I've also heard some things but couldn't possibly divulge them

Oh dear - that is too spookily similar. Just as well the V8V sounds different.

Should be called the Volante though. Hmmm wasn't an old MGB once called a roadster, I seem to recall one in my youth.

Seconded. It's like saying Jade Goody and Isabella Rosellini are identical twins

Perhaps it's just me then (or just that specific picture), but I can see similarities in the contour of the rear bumper, the 'square' shape of the rear bumper, the placement of the exhaust exits, the boot lip, the rear arches in line with boot height placement, the smooth panel in between the lights, and a few other things.

I cant believe you even considered it and then went on to find the MG picture and post it next to the Aston. Sacrilege.

Called Roadster as Volante makes it sound soft

kmpowell, I have seen it and it does not look like an MG in the metal, in fact, not even really in those pictures. However, if it helps take the heat off, I can sort of see where you are coming from........
What I think you are seeing is the basic building blocks for a convertible car, which inevitably will have similarities with other convertibles

Funny you should say that, i was thinking the rear end (from this view) reminds me of a Lotus Elan M100 (the 80's version). Then I look at the whole side view and its proportions, and begin to see a Honda S2000...

Hope it looks even more beautiful with the top down! I have the idea that this is going to be another licking object for jeremy Clarkson on top gear

Seems a funny phrase to use here given that it implies (loosely) it'll be launched too late. Tenuous, I know, but not the best analogy!

Volante -> 4 seater convertible, no?
