Im starting to love the Vanquish now and the feeling has just grown after the test drive a cpl of months ago (this always bloody happens to me, its why test drives are bad for my wallet!). The trouble is I lust after a proper 90's twin screw Vantage...lets be honest who doesnt?

I was semi kinda hoping the DBS was going to be an Uber Vanquish, so that one was kaiboshed. There are rumours of a run out Vanquish special, but the trouble with that one is that said specials are usually just a new coat of paint, an extra plaque somewhere and vague "handling improvements" or otherwise known as we "firmed up the dampers".

I dont want something that basically tries to Anglophile the current version of a 550/575 or 599 or whatever. I want something that basically take a f**king crowbar to the Italain b**stard and never even occurs to bother to stand around discussing niceties like manettino dials or whatever.

Does anybody else out there want something Vanquishy but with DNA straight from the 550/600 ponies Vantage? Its all a little bit too "nice" for me at the moment, I want something from Aston that lets "nice" nowhere near it. I want something with that little bit of old Aston in it, a bit of Bastard if you will.

Ill get my coat and slink off if its just me...

I've always been a huge fan of the Virage Le Mans, 600 bhp twin superchargers

I understand your post but cannot decide whether you are just making comment on Aston Martin's strategy or you are out to buy something.

If it is the former - I absolutely cannot agree more, they need something that does not have to compare itself with rivals "boot space" or "visibility" but something that well and truly piddles all over it !!

If you are out to buy something - If you lust after a "twin screw" Vantage, I suggest that you go and buy one. I have had a line of 550s V600 and now a Le Mans and love them. The last Coachbuilt Aston Martins and truly awesome "Old School" engineering.

I can't remember the name of the company, but they are the same guys that did the road-legal 550LM (one cannot call it a Ferrari due to legal issues).

Anyway they were offering a Vanquish with 4 Turbos (2 of the Noble Twin Turbo Packs), and the gearbox converted back into a proper manual( its the viper box iirc). Add some CF bodywork and a DBR9 bonnet to complete the look. 1000+ bhp

V12 a little of both to be honest. Im always at my weakest after test drives, the last one cost me £55k and a Sagaris and I was only blagging a test drive just to see what the latest beastie was like! Bloody fantastic motor car is the answer, but thats not the pt.

Oh I so want a 90's Vantage, but I have to appease the other half now and she hates the Just Looks Like It Raped Your Mum and Made Your Daddy Its Bitch look, much prefers "Bond's car". The Vanquish is starting to grow on me now aswell, the more muscular looks definately giving it an edge over the softer new stuff. The Vanq doesnt pack the punch it needs though to be the Vantage's successor.

I dont want a Turbo'd Aston. Real cars have Superchargers not rice blower thingies.

530BHP and 500lbs of torque without having to squeeze a hairdryer under the bonnet. That getting close?

Good start. Now lets ditch the "nice pretty boy" looks and get some meat back into them. The sketch drawings of the DBS looked pretty hot and mean.

Vanquish is a superb car, I currently have an S in the stable but IMHO it wont give you the buzz or the sense of occasion of the twin screw vantage. However, if you are only allowed to buy motorcars ok'd by your memsahib.............. he he he

I'll see if I get time to Photoshop a couple of photos over the next couple of days to add a bit of the old Vantage's look to it.

An uber Vanquish? Oh yes

I'd love to see the sketch for the DBS turned into reality. The real DBS misses the mark slightly.....it's a DB9 with a (nice) bodykit, but the DB9's beauty is tarnished just a little in my opinion with these add-ons.

The DBS sketch showed a car of different proportions, slightly longer bonnet and a lower roof/window line. I'd like twin rear lights too (ala v600). Add a 600bhp, normally aspirated, V12 and a more "bespoke" DB9 style interior and you're nearly there. Oh, and no more than 500 a year.

I wonder how much Aston would ask for a one-off? A cool million maybe? Still, can you imagine having the only one?

There was something in the online (PDF) version of the Aston mag I spotted a few weeks back about someone having slightly more aggressive tweaks made to their DB9. Think a few of these influenced the DBS (but can't be sure)... it was a lot more subtle, whilst still making it a bit edgier (the lower rear, for instance).

Got to agree that the DBS sketches are in a different league to the end product (wouldn't say "no" to either, mind!) Think "tweaking" a DB9 would probably be easier (from a Photoshop perspective if nothing else!) than modifying a Vanquish...

Yeah, I started on that same idea at about 11am.

I think that conversation we were having offline might have to continue a bit...

Hehe. Quite scary it took me till this evening to think about it! The trouble is though, it is relative cheap to do it in the TVR/Sagaris world, but in no way is it cheap, relative or otherwise, to do so in the Aston world! The other thing is I know the gurus' gurus in TVR land, I know bugger all about Aston folks!

Kewl link to BBR though, I remember when folks just used to refer to Brodie Britain Racing and I think I recall Tim Harvey saying that mega 500 was the worst, most evil motor he'd ever driven! So much power and so fast in a striaght line it was mental, but about 100 horses more than the car could either cope with or was ever designed for!

90s Vantage.... more exclusive... this will eventually pay dividends in the future

Vanquish... beautiful, proper 21st century british muscle car but there are 2000 around (this is good when you want to buy one!)

having to choose is hard, honest, but, personally, I would go for a rarer car like the 90s Vantage because it is more outrageous

I downloaded a great photoshop based on the DBS sketch/AMV8 ages ago.......if I email it to someone, can they host it so it can be shown here? It's well on the way to what I'd like the Vanquish replacement to be
