Dilema

Was going to replace my DB9 with same again in 2007 but been advised the AMV8 Roadster will be available and my dealer is taking deposits. Love the 9 but quite tempted to give the Roadster a try! Decisions decisions.

Well then. Think of it this way. The same again (having the same again is never as much fun), or going for something fresh and exciting? Aren't they bringing out an 'AMV8 Vantage Vantage'? Like a hot V8 Vantage? If they were, I would go for that, but if I were in your situation, I'd plump for the AMV8 Volante

It varies on owners, but you may miss the difference in power/ sound if you like a V12. If you really want a V8 go for the lightweight, higher power version of the V8 (AMV8S?) to come out, or if you like the looks, the new DBS when it finally comes out.

I'd have to agree. Although the AMV8 convertible (not Volante, by all accounts - there goes another bit of Aston tradition!) looks great, I'm a coupe man through and through.

I'd stick with the oh so beautiful DB9 and get the new Sportspack

Volante has only ever applied to four seater Astons, two seaters have always been Roadsters. Apparently.

Also, Volante was not used as it may give the impression that it is a softer version of the car.

Wouldn't touch a lighter more highly strung V8 until they can make the current one reliable!

I wasn't aware of any engine troubles? thought it was only electronics and build quality?

Ill stick to the V12 anyway thanks

You're right - and don't I know it! - but my point was that everything will be more stressed in a lighter, faster car that's likely to be subjected to track day use etc.

Roadster vs. Volante - name one production Aston Martin (apart from the DB AR1) that was called a Roadster? Post-war it has been DHC, Convertible or Volante.

As mentioned before - yet another thing that has to be changed "for the sake of it" in a time when they are already struggling to remember their Heritage. They are doing truly spectacular work but must not forget what makes a "marque" - heritage.

How does heritage start then ? I would say at the beginning, ergo, when the 1st Volante came out, I am sure someone was moaning about it being called that, now it has been around for a while, it is heritage......go figure ????

Absolutely agree but when you radically change a business that relies so much upon it, I would suggest that it would be sensible to have some points remain - This may be even more sensitive for things unique to Aston Martin, like the use of "Volante".

Yes, of course people have been speaking out against change probably since the company moved out of Henniker Mews - however I am not speaking about a "change or die" point, merely an interesting departure from tradition for what appears to be little reason other than "change for change's sake".
