Hi,
I'm seroiusly looking at buying a DB7 Volante ,I've seen a couple but not got round to driving any yet!

Before I go and get too wound up in the procurement process can any of you give me some sound advice on typical DB7 Problems, what should I be looking for which are common faults with the car.

I've been driving TVR's for years now so I'm aware of HAND BUILT PROBLEM etc etc.

Also what are the associated costs i.e. servicing ,it will be a third car and doing no more than 3000 a year.

Any sound advice welcomed!

one of my uncles is currently running a '97 DB7 3.2 auto and he loves it to bits!
so far there haven't been any serious problems with it, it drives beautifully and it has a fairly good turn of speed too!
the supercharged 6 cyl engines are jag sourced and are pretty much bombproof and are pretty refined units too , not to sure about what a V12 DB7 is like to own/drive as i only really have experience with the 6 cyl car but i do suggest you look at and drive as many examples as you can including 6 cyl models and see which one you prefer.
i have heard that if you have problems with the air con that the dash board needs to be completely removed and that is a circa £3000 job!
you can feel free to have a look at the DB7 in my cars on my profile if it helps.
good luck! you won't be at all dissapointed with a DB7!
EDITED: take a look at this thread i started when he first bought the car www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.
hope this helps!
james.

My boss ran a Vantage Coupe for nearly 2 years and never had any problems really. He used it on a regualr basis and the only problems were warnings lights coming on but for very minor faults. He brought it from a dealer so he had warranty which helped. He loved it and now has a DB9

Thanks it seems some of the horror stories are just that I've looked at a lot of forums but up to now there's only really been one very upset guy and that was with a brand new DB9.

I'll buy from a dealer and ensure I get a Warrantee.

I would suggest speaking to Alan Baker at Aston Sales of Kensington. He knows everything about DB7s and is a very very helpful chap.

Buy a Manual Vantage as late as you can afford.

2 things:-

First, make sure its a 6 speed manual.

Second, make sure its got a Works sports exhaust fitted.

The second issue is not as important as you can obviuosly retro fit it, but combined they transorm the car.

Also suggest you try Chiltern Aston Martin, they specialise in DB7's and have factory Heritage status

Good luck in your search

The DB 7 Zagato in dark green colour is the most beatiful DB 7 ever... it does not work in silver but in any dark colour it is simply stunning

Bought it privately from a chap in the North West. It's still got 6 months dealer warranty left on it, which'll take me well past Eurohoon... no idea if it covers much, but it's got to be better than nothing! Plus it ticked pretty much every box I had - nice neutral colours for the interior, aluminium trim, white dials (OK, so that was me just being picky), manual 'box, sports exhaust, etc.

The cleared indicators should arrive tomorrow, and then I've just got to decide on whether to get the door handles and locks redone body-coloured (I'm even half tempted by that rear spoiler for them, but I know I shouldn't!)

Lurvly everytime i see a DB7 out and about (which is pretty much all the time here in Poole) i am happy for ages, partly because its just so beautiful, and i guess its the car that saved Aston because it sold so well
