In the same magazine as the Clarkson diatribe the t*at reviewing some German jelly-mould opines that a reason for not buying a DB9 is that "... you'll look like a sad Bond wannabe"

ahhh the lovely culture of envy at work

I guess Mercedes would give an arm and a leg to have Bond as a franchise associated with the 3 star badge

BMW did it and it did not work

You can put Bond near an Aston and observe the great synergy

You can put Bond in a BMW and get bored

They had to give Bond a remote control to power his BMW, it was the only way he could get more feedback than the steering wheel it came with

Touche

Some people might think you're a sad Bond wannabe. But in the end, you're in the DB9, they are in a Ford Escort or the like. For the most part people will be too busy staring at the car to think about the driver.

Sadly that type of envy is pandemic in the UK. My experiences in places like Italy and the USA goes to show how much they love seeing a decent car. Any envy they have is focused into thinking " If I work extra hard etc etc I too could have one of those etc etc etc" - It is easily demonstrated in how many cases of vandalism there are on decent cars in the UK

...anyway, I digress

Although the US is not totally without these cases, in the whole I agree with you!!

I think the reaction from most people when they see automotive exotica on the road is usually admiration mixed with quiet jealousy. Seems to me that most people would give drivers of these cars a thumbs up or a smile or something when seen. It's just that the odd few sad individuals in the UK seem more willing to vandalise such cars or label you as a 'wannabe Bond'.

Ofcourse there's no envy in the US. If they like your car, they just stick a gun in your face and jack it.

But yes I do agree with you wrt to the continent. You don't get the I'm going to look dead ahead so you won't see me looking at your car. And the ratio of frowns to smiles is far better.

What Top Gear wouldn't tell you is that Clarkson's wife has a V8 Vantage...

But Bond hasn't ever driven a DB9, only a Vanquish, so the comment doesn't make sense . And even in a Vanquish, you aren't going to be a Bond wannabe as you obviously just have a very good taste for cars

When I see someone in an Aston or the liek I'm filled with aimable jealousy.... totally jealous but happy for them to be in such a nice motor.

Can't understand the petty and pevish jealousy people suffer.

"Can't understand the petty and pevish jealousy people suffer."

it is same people hating cars and voting Labour, Green and Lib Dem... they have all the same DNA deep beneath. Inability to be happy for someone else good fortune...

On Fifth Gear recently I saw the start of the latest Gumball in central London. Guess what? There were thousands of people. The majority love cars, speed, sense of freedom, a little bit of exclusivity. Being different.

Not according to those communists. "You will move only by public transporth"

Jealousy is a property of sore losers: they did not make it (for a variety of reasons) hence they resent the others instead of asking the question to themselves.

Pity that some of them are running this beutiful country that is Britain.
