Sorry to go over old ground, but I recall reading a thread recently that contained various suggestions as to how to connect an iPod to the ICE in a V8V (criminal it hasn't got a dock as standard). Now I can't find it . As I'm stretching my cars legs (wheels?) in France the week after next, and I don't fancy carrying a pile of cds, can someone repeat the recommendations please.

Thanks.

You'll have to look into an FM transmitter, unfortunately.

Couldnt get into the link, anyway, question, not knowing how old your car is, does it have a tape deck?

If so, for about £10 or less, you used to be able to get a plug in tape cassette size gizmo, (got mine in Argos) with a lead and mini jack hanging out of it, I used mine to connect my Walkman mini disc player to the radio, worked just fine.

Thanks for the advice. Car is the new V8V so no cassette deck!

Based on Bund's advice, bought something similar (combined dock, charger, FM transmitter), now hoping it fits as the lid of the not-an-ashtray looks as though it might interfere.

Still annoyed Aston don't fit an interface - such an oversight in a modern car.

What you need is an FM modulator. It effectively "plumbs" your pod signal in via the aerial. Try this link.www.caraudiodiscount.com/acatalog/apple_ipod_fm_modulator.html

Here's the blurb:
Allows use of your iPod, this unit connects to the aerial of your car behind your radio, in effect the sound from your iPod travels into the aerial and into a pre-selected channel button on your radio, say number 6. You select a track or folder on your iPod, select pre-set 6 on your radio put the connetor in your iPod and the car comes out of your car speakers, with the volume controlled via your radio or steering wheel controls if you have them. Our FM modulator connects directly to your aerial lead giving the next best thing to direct iPod hard wire connection. Importantly our unit supplies power to your iPod allowing you to have a fully charged iPod. There are 3 frequencies giving you multi choice for your connections easily altered on your control box.

Apple iTrip. Our FM modulator is totally unlike an Apple iTrip which is illegal in the UK, the iTrip broadcasts on an FM frequency and you then link your radio to that frequency, works fine in Cornwall and in the countryside but gets mixed up with Taxi firms etc in Cities.

Thought that was your typo until I visited the site, and saw you had copied and pasted.

So me being me, droped a nice email to those guys just pointing out the little typo, and got a very nice email back (all happened during Sunday as well). So your off the hook over that one. Expensive bit of kit, but then again so is the car its going into.

BTW the site has been amended already and now reads:- and the sound comes out of your car speakers.

Have a nice day

Don't forget that anything that transmits at 88-108 Mhz FM is illegal without a licence in the UK.

Why don't you compile some MP3 CDROMs?

Commander Jameson posted this on another thread, just in case you missed it:-

Hope the link works, one item advertised is only a tenner?

Have a nice day out there people

Just back from the France trip (Millau viaduct and Route Napoleon are must-dos) - this bit of kit worked really well (in the absence of a proper integrated connection): eBay 9726474577

The ICE>Link FM is the best solution for the V8V at the moment - it hard wires into the aerial socket and electronically disconnects the vehicle aerial from the radio when the iPod is docked so as to greatly reduce the chances of interference. Ballpark cost fitted is £200 or so with the correct bracketry etc.
