......are in this month's CAR magazine. Rush out NOW and buy a copy

It's DB9 based, but the rear seats are junked and replaced with slots for two skid lids and a fire extinguisher. It rides on 20" wheels (although the article states the ones in the photos aren't the finished items). The cenre console is more like the Rapide concept, although using piano black/chrome. Quilted suade seats with racing harnesses.

I think, once again, the initial photos don't do the car justice.....but even so, it looks

It looks awesome, (but i'd still take the Vanquish S) any word on price??. I wish they would do something different though. The old V8 Vantage V600 was a stunning car, i wish they were able to do a modernised but similar looking car to that, but i belive that car was only retired because of new laws on building cars or something, can anyone help me out on that one?

Looks like a body kitted DB9 to me. Any news on engine and chassis mods?

530bhp and £170k, according to CAR. That seems a heck of a lot of money. Where does that leave the Vanquish? I hope they replace the Vanquish with an all new uber coupe.....600bhp minimum to take on that pesky Ferrari 599GTB.

I love the look of this, but really hope they can come up with something more original for the next Vanquish.

Vanquish dies shortly. Production was due to end in september, but will probably run to february based on current orders. Then production at newport pagnell ceases.

I guess Newport Pagnell will still stay open though, fettling and restoring the older cars? I certainly hope so.

So, will the DBS be Aston's flagship? I'd love to see a "proper" replacement for the Vanquish.

Pah! proper DBS's have four proper seats, rather then ski slats. And chrome/balck is soooo 1971... Racing harmness? Whats wrong with proper suspension?

Yours, a DBS V8 owner

Oh, regarding Newport Pagnall: I have not heard anythign about the sale, but the most likely will be AML will keep the north side of the road (ie service reception, etc) and redevelope the southern side (the assembly side). I had not realised it was so soon- we should plan a pilgrimage soon.

I have been told by a senior AML person here in the UK that Sunnyside (ie east side production area where Vanquish is made) will be sold off as soon as the last vanquish is made next february. Believed to be sold to tescos and a housing developer

Pilgramage? Thats what this Bonhams sale is. We doubt very much whether the bonhams sale will be at works service next year -- almost certainly at gaydon

I've never been to Newport Pagnell, but I'd have thought it would have been nice to at least try and turn it into an Aston Martin museum or somesuch.......instead it'll be another supermarket.

Just like Brooklands, there goes another bit of our motoring heritage

Does anyone else realize that this DBS has a lower roof and a shallower glass area than the DB9? It's very evident in the earlier sketch, less evident in the picture above but if you look carefully, it's there.

And the sketch is not distorted to make it sleeker, because all the other parts are true to scale (just compare it with a pic of the DB9).

I think the combination of the lower roof and slit-thin glass area makes the car much sleeker and much, much more aggressive than the DB9, and it justifies the new name.

Go here to see a scale-to-scale comparison pic with a DB9 : http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/74

The next generation Vanquish will be roomier, especially in the back so the DBS perfectly fits the slot as the most aggressive and performance-oriented Aston Martin.

From the pictures in Top Gear it looks very much at odds with itself. A stripped out track car on one hand but blinged up DB9 on the other hand. 20" wheels can't do much for the unsprung weight surely.

The successor to the current Vanquish. The DBS is not the Vanquish replacement.

As it is a DB9 with a bodykit, I don't think the roof or glass is or will be any different

And why do we need a replacement for vanquish when we have dbs?

The DBS is going to be a seperate model on the product line (4 models) and is defintely NOT a replacement for the Vanquish. The next Vanquish is due off the drawring board end of 2007

I did, however, the pic you have compared it with is not the finished DBS, it was a pic that was released before the car was finished, all you need to do is look at the grill in your pic compared to the actual car to see that.

The DBS is a DB9 with all new panels (not a bolt on bodykit as such) and the only things that haven't changed are the roof, doors and glass. It has the DB9 sports pack that lowers it by 6mm and new wing mirror attachments.

So to summise, no I cannot see a different roof line or shallower glass as they are the same as DB9
