Aston Martin soft-top spotted

V8 Vantage convertible seen testing in the UK

The convertible version of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage has been spy-shotted -- see link below. Though not yet officially announced, you can expect it to be on sale next year, and be shown at one of the early 2007 motor shows -- maybe Detroit.

The pics confirm that the roof will be soft, presumably for packaging and weight reasons -- just like the Porsche 911 with which it's in fierce competition. It'll use the same underpinnings and motive power as the coupé, although it's likely to sport a beefed up chassis for rigidity reasons.

It will reportedly cost £5,000 more than the £79,000 list price of the coupé.

Supercharged version? Will it be M6 powerful (500bhp+…probably more when BMW revise the design). Presumably lighter and more rigid for the sporty drivers? A real PHers car.

So really we want a “hard edged” car and instead they gave us a soft top?

RS is in the pipeline (I have an order in) - but even the current V8 is faster round Millbrook than the M6 (and only a second or so slower round Bedford west). *

Doh - only because M6 is limited to 155mph !! Remove the limiter and the M6 is a lot quicker.

My apologies... as the M6 posted 163mph I assumed (wrongly) that the limiter had been turned off. Should have known better than to think that the speed limiter would be off for a top speed run !

Or read the article more closely of course (tut)
