Guilty as charged.
I have one question guys. I am all set to make the exhaust straight through (dealer has no problem with doing it) but he ASSURES me that doing this will lose me about 15bhp.
His explanation was very convincing too.
As I don't want to part with any horses - I probably will leave as is...
...unless he is wrong?
Comments and thoughts (especially from clever people) much appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Straight through as in complete new exhaust system or just permenantly opening the valves?
Hi again
Just permanently openeing the valves. (Like several in here have done)
I was in a state of shock when I was talking to the dealer (I'd just seen the car close up for the first time and I really needed a lie down) - so I didn't take in the detail of what he was saying. Even if I had I wouldn't have understood it (I just drive 'em).
My limited knowledge made me think that getting exhaust straight through reduced back pressure and could actually INCREASE power. But this chap has been selling sports cars for many years and he was very convincing in his belief.

Doesn't make sense to me, then why bother putting the valves on there in the first place? When I did my factory tour I was told the valves were there only to comply with European and US noise pollution regulations. If having them open throughout the RPM range reduces engine power, then why doesn't it do it at higher RPMs???
People who sell a product for a long time don't necessarily know everything about them. When I worked at Microsoft we used to visit large customers from time to time and I used to get shocked at how misinformed some IT managers in major corporations were. Heck, I knew 12 year old kids who had better fundamental knowledge of how computers and software work compared to these 6-figue CIO/CTO's.

From what I've been told by the nice man in the drivetrain and engines dept - backpressure is a bit of a myth, and "the only place it's needed is a two-stroke"
Now we know...
I thought Shifty was called "two stroke" for a different reason
I think 1 stroke then a snooze would be more apt :-)

Im going to take out fuse 22 tomorrow and see what its like all the time before i get it done permanently.
bund, i'm in doubt if taking fuse 22 out actually did anything on mine to be honest. When I had the valves done it sounded a lot louder at lower revs, but remember the volume can be controlled by your right foot
The car can still be driven discreatly if you wish, but when you gives it some the burble/roar cuts in earlier.
It's a MUST !!
