Oh mama, Vanquish, Im in love!
Discussion
Finally got my arse into a Vanquish...and an S also!... and My God but it was worth the wait. I was genuinely amazed how good it was, that isnt to say I was expecting it to be rubbish, but I was expecting to get in say "ho hum, yes its ok, but I dont really feel like it wants to rape me like a proper Vantage does (No! Not one of those pretty little New Man thingies they call vantages these days)." How wrong was I though? Sounds fantastic, very well build, stunning, absolutely stunning ride for what it is. Loved it.
Then the S. Miles better seats, and at the first blip of the throttle and...an instant tick in the "Ohhh this is going to be good!" box. Sounds even better than the standard Van', rides is only a little bit firmer and handles very very well for such a big car. Oh and you do get that "Son of Vantage" hewn from granite feel A proper car.
Best thing I can probably say about them is that they felt like a grown up Sagaris. Some of you may feel that is damning with faint praise...but then you dont know how good a Sagaris...but it isnt. A Vanquish feels like a more solid, heavy bruiser version of a Sagaris, there is more heft in the steering and you can feel the bulk of the car underneath you, working, translating the heavy surfaces into more massaging movements for your arse. The Sagaris is a lot lot firmer and more jarring, it doesnt "work" a road aswell in GT mode. The other difference is the torque, you can really feel the V12's heavy torque in there...something you learn to work around in a Sagaris.
Im reminded of the old boxing quote, "The difference between being hit by Ali and Foreman, was that with Ali it was like being hit by a Ferrari at 100mph and with Foreman it was being hit by a Cadillac at 50." This is the same, the Sagaris hits you at 100, the Vanquish at 50, the S at 70! A big, grown up Sagaris with torque. I loved them both!
Im buggered now. I was hoping this would solve my Vanquish v Vantage problem, in that the Vanquish would kick itself out of contention. It hasnt, it has only made itself a new convert.
Oh and anybody moaning about the gearbox, what's the problem with it? First time Id ever tried one of these flappy paddle thingies - Im strictly a proper stick bloke me - and I thought it worked just fine.
