Bids on e-Bay suggest 'above list premiums' are struggling to hit £1.5k.

Also , I saw ad in broad sheets today for a new car at a couple of £k below list...is the waiting list really 3 years ?

the new V8 looks the Doggies - looking to trade my 996 TT for one (under list of course .

Well under list now by the looks of things - take a look in the Sunday Times or on Topmarques.

Toby, Hi to a fellow TT owner! I have been doing the same thing, you can easily buy new for list or just under, if you don't mind the spec., main dealers even have cancelled orders available if you are prepared to phone around. I test drove an AMV8, think the looks are absolutely stunning, like the interior, love the nice image (not nasty like Pork) bit dissapointed in the drive though,it's certainly only brisk! Having said this it is still a lovely car & I still want one, but having got within a knats Knack**s of buying a V8, I have put a deposit down on a 997GT3, which will hopefully give me more of a drivers "fix". What is also worrying me at the moment is likely residuals of AMV8s, at £70k-ish the Aston is a no brainer, but with decent spec at nearly £90k I wonder where they will be in a years time, particularly with all the talk about them not being fast enough and the new GT3 at the same money-ish!
Having said this I am certainly not knocking those of you who have AMV8's they are a simply stunning looking fabulous car & I still want one, in Titanium silver with 10k off list please!

with the current proliferation of speed cameras and road monitoring, anything that can get to 70mph is likely to be fast enough...

I know what you mean, but I still think it is much faster than people think and the performance is very useable.

In the recent EVO performance test it was 0.75 sec behind the 996TT and 0.65 secs ahead of the Vanquish S.....surely that's more than 'brisk' ??

Porsche vs Aston vs depreciation vs premiums vs speed, etc, etc, blah blah....

If all you want is to go quick and save money, buy an Impreza, it will blow away a Porsche and an Aston.

If you want an Aston, just buy it. If you want a Porsche, get that. There is always something cheaper and quicker around the corner

Anybody else getting bored of the Porsche vs Aston debate, rofl.....

Impreza !!! - ....even in blue with gold wheels !!

You are joking arent you - no self respecting Porsche or Aston owner would lower themselves - been there , done that and far too embarrassed to be seen dead wearing the tee shirt.

Totaly agree with J there is always something quicker and chgeaper i came to the V8 from a modified TVR which was far quicker but a totally different car. Not only are there quicker and cheaper cars but dont forget the driver. When i worked at Ford in the cosworth era we had a client that had nearly 500BHP from his but he still wasn't as quick as our sales manager in a standard car!! At the end of the day the car must put a smile on your face and if it doesn't then it is either time to sell it or you should not have bought it in the first place.

Sorry but as the V8 Vantage was specifically designed to compete directly with the 911 (& Aston's MD has clearly stated as such) it is a very relevant discussion, particularly as the Aston is £15-20k more expensive. Any one who is spending £60-£90k of their own hard earned money would be rather silly not to do a direct comparison, including driving both!!!

A colleague got a June production slot for a few hundred quid on ebay, he paid the deposit and a bit extra and it was all sorted. Now I say June production slot, well we might get the car but apparently the engine is another matter!

We found loads for sale in showrooms at list price but most were base-spec and he wanted half the options list.

The debate has been had, the choices and comparisons are there, surely all that is left to do is choose the car you want ??

Again with the £15-£20k more issue as well, spec the Porker up to what you would require and then look at the price difference again.

If I had the cash, I would buy what I want and not worry about the comparisons, because, as stated before, there will ALWAYS be something better around the corner.

As before, if you want a car that is quick, handles well and beats most things on the road and saving money is your thing, buy an Impreza.

If you have a passion for cars, your own mind and the money to afford it, just buy what you want ??

I have seen the track figures for V8 vs 911, I also understand what it takes to get the best of both and realise that the average driver will never be able to pull that little bit extra from the Porsche. I would always go for exclusivity myself

Just an example for those who think buying into the club is based on money and figures alone.

Well said that man !!! If I have the cash , I will buy whatever I want without reference to you or anybody else. I certainly don't worry about comparsions between what I own & drive versus the merits (or not) of Impreza ownership.

Respectfully , I'd recomend that you mind your own business rather than feel compelled to tell other people what to spend their money on - or maybe you are really a 'wannabee' Aston/Porsche owner ?

No offence taken, mainly for the fact I don't think I said what to spend their money on ??

If it came across as that, I apologise.

For the record though, I am most definately a 'wannabee' owner

I would plump for any Aston, but IMO, a 911 has to have the all the spoilers, whistles and bells to get my heart going !!

Like the red GT3 I saw today.......bliss !!

I agree. Just buy what YOU want and ignore everyone else. I'm lucky enough to have had a 997S which went when my new AMV8 arrived which in turn will go when my new GT3 arrives and I don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks. Also had an Impreza and although I've moved on wouldn't for one minute mind being seen in one again. Had an M3 too and that didn't make me a 'typical' fast lane bully. Most of these misconceptions come from people who've never actually owned them.
