Finally picking the new car up on Friday morning and can't wait.

In the meantime, thought I'd ask what the advised procedure is for running the car in.

Any advice / pointers to another post where this has been discussed would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

drive as fast as you can until the tank is empty, fill up, repeat.

They don't need running in.
Just don't do anything stupid like reving the guts out of it when it's cold.

or drive 200 odd miles then take it around Goodwood

All the engines are bench run in for 1500ish miles, so it's only the tyres and brakes that need running in, and of course care when cold as with any car (as persuader says).

Thanks all. That's great news - doing a couple of hundred miles on Friday and Saturday from north east to Manchester and back so should be nicely warmed up straight away!

Delighted that this question gave you another chance to post your Goodwood photos, Shady. Superb!

Especially as the engine is dry-sumped, so make sure the coolant and oil are nice and hot before you explore the absolute top of the rev counter!

Other than that, drive it like any other new (ish) car, ie avoid low rpm high load for a while, and high rpm no load. I find that you actually want to use a fairly significant load when running in, don't be too careful. every car i've run in has responded better to having enough load to bed the rings in early and positively, ie using mid range rpm (when warm) and mid loads. As the V8 is a fairly heavy car you tend to use a reasonable load most of the time anyway just scooting around.

Running in on a modern engine tends to consist of doing 2 things, beding wearing surfaces (rings / bore, cam / lifters, etc)(say couple of thousand miles) and giving the basic structure enough heat cycles to settle (ie become dimensionally stable) and this can take 10,000 miles for some engines! (usually german ones lol)
Other than that, just enjoy it!

I've gone for titanium with phantom, Shady. Coupled that with the piano black centre, and the platinum inserts - I'll be interested to see whether they're actually on the car as I understand that they're no longer available. Hope they're there though cos I like them.

In terms of options, ticked almost all of the boxes except phone and fire extinguisher - like others on the site, I won't be sticking around if she goes up in flames!

I know titanium isn't popular on the site, but when I came to spec the car, Vardy's (the local dealer near Durham) had a titanium DB9 in, and I loved it. They've since sold a titanium V8 as a cancelled order, and it did look good in the showroom.

bund - that would have been cracking fun! Don't know about you, but for the past three nights, I've dreamt about the car. Very bizarre! One night, I dreamt I'd lost the keys in a local pub and woke up in a cold sweat. Analyse that!

And Max - thanks very much for the advice. I won't be too gentle with her.
