Bentley Conti GT v Vanquish
Discussion
Never thought I would admit this but having owned both (and I ain't a footballer, by the way)the Bentley pulverises the Vanq (especially mid-range), and guess what it does not break down either.
It may not be as pretty but at least I can get my brief case in the boot and my kids in the back, without having to have the steering wheel uder my chin.

My god man, get yourself off to the doctors immediately!! The Conti GT is, without doubt, the pig uggliest car ever to drive on the roads. Why oh why would you pay north of £100K on something that looks like a Toyota on steroids. Sorry to say but every Conti GT owner I know, and there are a few down here in Sandbanks, are total muppets!!! Now go and discuss your power and wealth with your other muppet friends please!!! Leave the true car enthusiasts alone

In defence, the guy has owned both cars and arrived at the decision himself from experience.
Each to there own

Agreed each to his own BUT that post was totally pointless and IMHO a thinly disguised trolling exercise!!

Sandbanks is heaven for Aston Martin and Bentley lovers, every other day when im there I see a black continental GT parked by Seven Developments, and quite a few others around and I have to admit (in my opinion of course), for similar money a DB9 or even Ferrari F430 is a lot more desirable. Around here in Poole/Bournemouth im sorry to say the Continental GT is more common than a 911!!

I'd prefer a DB9 to both. Im not a fan of the CGT, can't get used to the looks and having driven one, the DB9 is better in every area. In fact i'd rather have an AMV8 than a CGT and im not the biggest fan of the AMV8. Did see a lovely Blonde driving a bright Yellow one near Lords last Friday though !
What? I can't believe my eyes. The only thing that has damaged the Bentley image is all those over paid footballers. Listen fellas, I've owned both and I am telling you every time I drove the Vanq, it felt like it was going to break.
The Vanq is the best looking car ever made, with an incredible noise, but that's where it's attributes end. I even had a tour of the factory, and it didn't make me feel any better. Old geezers in overalls pushing chassis' around on trollies, for all that the build quality was sub-standard.
I tell you what, you break down in a 160k car, and watch every shmuk drive past sneering at you. Then have it loaded on a trailer and trapsed off to Newport Pagnell. There is just no excuse in this day and age for such a costly car to be so unreliable and frail.
You do see more Bentleys, you know why, because those people with money are sensible and when they don't want to be so sensible it'll nudge 200mph and carry four people with luggage. What about the racing history/heritage of Bentley? Does that not count?
Sorry to tell you this but my nine year old's school mates also put up the same arguments as you lot when I sold the Vanq, so I am hoping there is someone out there who can have a reasoned discussion, rather than people that drool over car posters.

The Conti GT is an extremely good all round GT.
Pros - My wife would like one because it has more space in the rear and boot and is a fairly comfortable ride.
Cons - Did the Bentley Performance Course, while highly competent, found the ride a bit rolly/wallowy/soft - bit like being in a canoe.
My father in law has one (he's in his 70's) - bit of an old mans car, imagewise.
Biggest stumbling block for me is the looks - just doesn't do it for me. Likewise the aural/exhaust entertainment, even though having been improved since launch, just isn't there.
The DB9 however presses all the right buttons - although not as practical as Conti spacewise, have still had two adults in back for short runs and teens on longer journeys. If realy need more space for luggage then we simply use another vehicle. With the auto box is a fantastic all rounder - can't fault it - plus it realy stirs the blood and it seems, of others, that see it - something I haven't noticed the Conti doing.

If you were actually in the position of spending your own six figure wad on a brutish cruiser, the VW GT would certainly have to be on the list.
I don't see it as a Bentley, however, that honour would be reserved for the latest, really rather special, Arnage T - seeing my first one recently, it possessed an automotive gravitas the Conti GT could never replicate.
Still, at Ribble Valley Bentley a while back, I must confess to strange stirrings when sneaking a cheaky eyeful thereof: yes, it was a tad blingy but my God - what build quality! A sort of Audified solidity and undoubtedly a momentous place in which to be hemetically sealed during stints of profane warpissimo.
I'll say it again, however, I'd feel much more comfortable in a colossal AMG coup of some descript, much more 'honest' products, I think and frankly, more powerful and crucially, almost inconceivably less frugal.
The Vantage interior is for potential owners, a big let down, entirely too much parts bin recyclement and unlike the DB9, lacking bespokiness.
Whatever, it is asinine to hold the GT in contempt because reservations are always going to come across as supremely tenuous from a serious enthusiast point of view; it is a motoring tour de force, end of story.

erm excuse me, its rare I get annoyed but wtf has this chap done that is so outrageous, we come here to discuss cars & other things & to voice opinions. That is all he has done ???
Don't be so f'ing rude.
Jesus, if we all thought the same we'd all be driving Astons or Bentleys

I assume you meant Vanquish?
The Vanq does nothing for me. I would take the AMV8 Vantage every time. In terms of huge super coupes...I am with you on a big Merc. I agree the GT is a tour de force but I just cannot forgive those looks!!!
