Just had a test drive in a new V8 Vantage () and the salesman picked up on a feature that I hadn't heard mentioned or discussed before: Positive Torque Control.

Positive Torque Control (PTC) also acts to help prevent the rear wheels from locking in an engine braking situation.

Apparently this will open up the diff to spin away torque if it senses that the wheels are about to lock through engine braking (for example changing down without matching engine speed). Clearly I didn't have an opportunity to try this on the test drive , but has anyone further experience of it?

Anyway I still reckon its more fun to heal & toe just to hear that wonderful exhaust note.

I think you could say I was suitably impressed.

PTC does not affect the rear differential, it simply allows the Traction control system to open the throttle under certain circumstances when the driver is asking for a shut throttle:

It is useful in 2 situations
1) clumsy selection of a low gear - say grabing 2nd into a wet roundabout.
2) slippery surfaces, ie ice and snow where simply backing off the throttle in any gear is enough to decelerate the rear wheels excessively.

both these scenarios could result in you spining off backwards into the scenery
It is not a substitute for nice smooth heal / toe driving when changing down the gears!
