Get more noise from your DB9

Your Aston Martin's new exhaust system?

Does your DB9 sound rorty enough? QuickSilver Exhausts has designed a stainless steel exhaust system "so the Aston Martin DB9 driver can enjoy a level of sound appropriate to the AM name".

There are no intrusive tones at low or middle engine speeds, said the company, allowing the car to continue being used as a daily driver.

The QuickSilver Sports system for the DB9 allows increased exhaust gas speed and volume, producing a noticeable improvement in throttle response. The driver will enjoy a higher pitched, crisper exhaust note with more volume as revs increase. A weight reduction of over 12kg over the standard unit means handling and braking are improved as weight is removed from the rear of the car, said the company.

Key features include:

  • Unique crisp sound rising in proportion with rpm
  • Dyno tests awaited – about 20bhp improvement, more torque and better throttle response expected by maker
  • Weight reduction from rear of car – 12.2Kg lighter than stock
  • Accelerated gas-flow draws heat away more efficiently to reduce under-floor temperatures
  • Entirely manufactured from aircraft grade 304 austenitic stainless steel including the flanges
  • Bolt-on fit

Idle 69dB 72dB
4000rpm 79dB 83dB
5000rpm 86dB 92dB
6000rpm 94dB 96dB
6700rpm 94dB 99dB

20 bhp and 12.2 kg lighter? The AM can use all the power it can get. I am rather disappointed none of the AMs have even cracked the 500 bhp mark....and I am talking proper horsepower not the PS stuff...its a proper requirement nowadays for the highend cars.

Am I missing the point! You spend in my case a lifetimes earnings on your beloved Aston, and they can only fit an exhaust that some boffin down the road can better in weight and power restriction. It makes you think what else could be re-designed by blokey up the road to improve the cars performance!!!! I,ll stick to my VW engined Seat Leon. at least its reliable and cost me alot less.

I know what you mean, but find this whole Horsepower arms race a bit of a farce. An M5 (for example) might have 500 bhp in certain set ups, but if you try and use it the car's mission control will over-ride you and stop all hell breaking loose. My favorite anaology is the condom. Astons have ultra thin non-latex traction control and ABS systems that still leave warmth and feel. Most 500 bhp German Uber-saloons are wrapped in the automotive equivalent of a wellington boot filled with spermicidal cream - there's no feel!

But Mr. Boffin doesn't have to produce kit that complies with EU emissions and drive-by noise regulations. He also doesn't have the bean-counters of a large motor corporation looking over his shoulder.
