Lots of speculation, but nothing concrete from Aston themselves. Best guess is a supercharged version in 18mths to 2 years.

The engine produced 400bhp in the Jaguar it came from. Cosworth redesigned it and it now has only 380 bhp. You don't need to be a genius to see there's a full fat version to come, probably normally aspirated and badged V8 Vantage S. The model release schedule seems to read:
2006: End of Vanquish/ New V8 Volante
2007/8: New Vanquish
2007/8: Up rated DB9 and V8

Per a mate at Gaydon, V8 was detuned for a complex mix of reasons: The full fat V8 was quicker then the Vanquish (Pre S) which was unacceptable to Aston for two reasons: First who'd pay £170k for a Vanquish if the (then) £70k V8 was faster? and secondly Vanquish production sustains half of the Newport Pagnell site until later this year when production there finishes. Finally the marketing people who now hold sway with the German argued that the car should be positioned against the 911 Carrera in the first instance and then upgraded as the years go by the extend the life of the design. This is of course standard industry practice and Aston is now a standard industry player.

Only the supercharged Jag engine produces 400bhp
The normally aspirated one is a mere 300bhp I believe.

The V8 Engine is NOT detuned. It has in fact been rebored and restroked to provide fundamentally different character to the original Jag engine, focussing on high-rev torque at the expense of low-end power.

I feel that the author of the thread has confused the supercharged and naturally aspirated versions. I would esitmate that in its cureent guise, that the AMV8 engine is well capable of attaining 500bhp when supercharged. Pity I like them NA...

Can't think of any sensible replies to this comment, I can think of a few insulting ones, stupid springs to mind, but nothing sensible

How are they updating the DB9?

Just technically different, i.e more power, better box etc? Or a complete restyle?

Part of the point of the underlying platform upon which DB9/AMV8 (and new Vanquish)are built is to allow the new facility at Gaydon to produce much greater variation in model at an economic cost. The marketing strategy of Aston has been rewritten over the past 10 years and is now based upon a variation on the VAG single platform multiple car approach limked to mass customisation.

You should expect the life of DB9 to be extended by road/track versions based on Prodrive's work pronbably badged S/GT/GTS/AR, ultra-luxury versions badged no doubt Zagato. Works service already do a superleggerra(can't spell it)version and are actively working on various other mods that might migrate to Gaydon.

The manual Vanquish (retrofit mod not new)is for example awaiting approval at the moment.
