Hate to be an anorak, but there wasn't such a beast.

Do you mean the Vantage V8 (Twin Supercharged ultimate version of the Virage, but never used the Virage name)? Or was it a 6.3 "wide body" Virage (a great looker, if you ask me!).

Saying that, Virage Vantage is a good way to differenciate between the old and new V8 Vantages!

I did a search for the numberplate on the AA site and it come up with that, then googled it and there were piccies of some AM 'so called' Virage Vantage. So TBH I do not know what I saw, but thats what the computer said

Well, you live and learn. This from my first Google search!

www.angelfire.com/film/auto_photo_gallery/AMVV/aston_martin_virage_vantage.htm

This, to me, is a Vantage V8. I never realised it was known as a Virage Vantage.

D'oh - this is from my 2nd Google

www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/de/?car=20779

Now THAT is what I'd call a Virage Vantage...or rather a Virage 6.3.

Thanks Twin Turbo, anorak is good IMHO!

Here's the link in English www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=20779 - my German isn't all that good anyway :P

OK, I've fixed the nomenclature on the site - after reading more at www.astonmartins.com/virage/vantage.htm where they specifically state "Even the Virage name was dropped leaving only the name Vantage", which seals the case as far as I am concerned...

Now, with regards to your 6.3 comment - is that for sure a 6.3 litre version and not a Vantage? Thanks for clearing these things up for me btw!

Ciao

Just to top it all: Roger Bennington had a Vantage with, I believe the 7 litre conversion (or maybe the 6.4 litre). On its first outing at Goodwood FOS about 10 years ago he increaed the revs, dropped the clutch...and twisted the driveshafts. I remember helping to push it onto the trailer.

I think I'd rather have the turbocharged 700bhp Virage which was for sale a short while ago. Much more "fun" in a discreet sort of way

A customer of my family's garage has a V8 volante:

- basically a convertible one of these (as if they didn't stand out enough.. ).

A world away from today's Astons despite being a ~2001 model. It has something that the new ones don't even if, being cruel now, it's dated and the interior is like something out of an American car.

You don't get the supercharger either, but to be fair when are you likely to use 550bhp in something like this?

There's somehting about convertable Astons which I love. I would really like a Virage Volante (or a V8 Volante like that one above). Very nice cars, but not sports cars: Gt cars, cruisers yes. But not sports cars.

Now, a short-chassis Vantage V600 Volante is recognised by many as the ultimate 4 valve V8 incarnation. 600bhp in a short chassis convertable bodywork. Very, very nice.
