Auto Express reckons it's the stripped out "RS" version they reported on a few weeks back, while Autocar reckons it's the new Vanquish.

I hope Autocar has it right. The proportions of the black and white image would indicate a big 'ol V12 up front. With Ferrari about to launch a 600bhp+ 599GTB, the poor old Vanquish is going to be left behind. I wonder what the maximum bhp is they could get out of the v12.

Either way, Daniel Craig's a lucky git to be the first to see it

Well picked up Autocar and had a good ole look at it.

I have to say Ive decided that it looks absoluely God damn stunning and personally Im sold on it! So much so that I actually decided to look at it with the fiancee and have a "chat" with her. We reckon this thing wont see production till mid 2008 at the earliest and probably more like end of 2008. Whatsmore, she likes it

*If* Ive get the business right over the next 2 yrs, one should be affordable, so Im putting my name down for one. I was thinking of a 2nd hand Vanquish or pukka Vantage in a few-12 months time, but Ill wait 2-3yrs for this DBS. I think it looks the dogs danglies.

The Vanquish is 5 years old and a update (like the DB7i6-DB7 Vantage) is more likely than a complete replacement. Its been said before many times that the DBS is not thought to be the Vanquish replacement as it carries the DB name. And also its only confirmed to be a James Bond car, Production is not yet confirmed but it wouldn't suprise me if they do. It certainly is not a DB9 replacement, as the DB9 is only in its 3rd year. Expect a DB9 Vantage/GT in a couple of years. I belive Aston have said a couple of years back about the possibility of having a 600bhp+ production Vanquish.

Pure conjecture on my part.

As the Vantage name is now used on an "entry-level" car, there's no reason to doubt that DBS (which used to be an entry-level car) could now be the top model. Some sort of bizarre balancing out of the names by Dr Bez?

To be honest, I wasn't expecting a Vanquish replacement for at least a couple of year as Aston (the company) have changed so much in the last 2 years. We've seen more new Aston's in the last 2 years than the last 10 put together. However, we know the next Vanquish will use the V/H platform that underpins the V8 Vantage and the DB9, so the basic ingrediants are already available. All Aston need do now is add a little spice (that'll be a 600bhp V12) and garnish with a new body. With only 500 odd Vanquish made a year, they could possibly use the existing production lines at Gaydon too. Dr Bez seems to think 500 Rapides a year wouldn't be a problem, so hopefully the same goes for the Vanquish.

But who knows. I could be miles off and the DBS may simply be a Vantage with some new body panels.

But the waiting is agony
