AMV8 Autocar Road Test Report
Discussion
I'm getting sooooooooooo bored of all this "it's not as good as a 997". 911s have never appealed to me. I know they're brilliant to drive and give great driver feedback......but they just leave me cold. I can't live with the idea of the engine being slung out the back and the interiors are bland. And they are two a penny around here.
To me, the V8 nearest rival is the Maserati GranSport. Another flawed gem

A superb road test report in Autocar this week, comprehensive, methodical and fair, gives the the sexy DB7 sibling only five stars for noise and desirability.

Rich Im sure he means the V8, referring to it as a relation to the venerable DB7

LA - why are you so intent on convincing us that we should buy a 997 instead of the Amv8? If you love 911s so much then go buy one....
You seem very eager to mention the V8s shortcomings, but you may wish to be fair by qutoing some of it's strengths, like it's good directional stability and transient behaviour, dry-braking and a lap-time difference of 1.2 sec compared to the sport-packed, ceramic-shod 911. I presume the v8 was using the std issue bridgestone run-flats instead of the optional P-Zero Corsa's?
I also noticed that the wet lap time was actually faster in the v8 and that the V8 is quicker round the test track than the Elise 111R!

the deep-rooted feeling of engineering togetherness that a Porsche or BMW exudes."
That's the same 'deep-rooted' engineering togetherness feeling I got when, stepping into a friends Boxter resulted in part of the seat control falling off, the oil dripping on her drive, and misfires from new.
The Aston I drove exuded excellent build quality.
It's getting very bored reading comments about the lack of quality of the new car when, until either the press or individuals have actually run them for more than a few miles, no one really knows how well they've been put together and how reliable they are going to be. Every thread recently by LA here has been to slag off the V8. PLEASE LA, informed opinion is fine and we're happy to read whereas trying to use comments by other people to justify YOUR view seems a bit pointless really.
