Spacers on a V8 Vantage?
Discussion
Haven't even collected the car yet and looking at a few jobs i would like to do
Considering whether to push the rears out slightly closer to the edges of the arches.
From what i can see there are a couple of options;
1 - 5mm spacers which let you use the original bolts but may cause issues if not fitted correctly as they are effectively just shims
2 - Wider (11 or 23mm) spacers that require you to trim the bolts and the wheels then bolt to the spacer rather than the hub.
Option #1 - will you notice any difference only being 5mm?
Option #2 seems to be around £300 per axle and once committed, you can't easily go back to standard.
Anyone had any experience and did they cause any long term issues? Are there any issues with the geo if you only push out the rears or would you be better off adding spacers to both axles?
Welcome your experience and feedback

I went with 12mm spacers and replacement nuts with longer internal thread. I did not like the thought of cutting the existing bolts down and do not like the additional strain created by bolting the spacer to the hub, then bolting the wheel to a spacer.
Whilst from an aesthetics point of view they could definitely go wider at the rear, it’s not all about aesthetics for me. I always like to keep the proportions the same as OE. So if I’m pushing the track out 24mm for example, I’d do that front and rear.

Any links to retailers for the full kit?
I really don t like the idea of bolt-on spacers, especially if it involves cutting studs down, but I quite fancy the idea of hubcentric 11mm spacers that simply need new lug nuts to retain the same thread exposure.
I was lucky to find one mint pair on EBay andI really don t like the idea of bolt-on spacers, especially if it involves cutting studs down, but I quite fancy the idea of hubcentric 11mm spacers that simply need new lug nuts to retain the same thread exposure.
Bought the other pair from AUTODOC when they had a discount code. Like you, I’m not a huge fan of spacers and these are as far as I will go, I’ve had no issues.
They’re stupidly expensive but the best around imo

You may not need to cut studs. My wheels, lightweight forged 10 spoke, have pockets in the back that take the studs.
I didn't like how the 23mm rears 11mm front looked with standard ride height. Too pokey. This is the H&R set up which was actually designed originally for the DB9.

Looks much better lower,

However, I didn't really like the whole set up for ride and handling. It's not straightforward but easiest option is just the 11mm rear with extra thread nuts.
I might have another go one day now I'm running different anti roll bars and shocks. My gut tells me the best set up is probably slightly lowered (approximately 10mm) with 11mm spacers all-round.

Wheel bearings will suffer unnecessarily
That old chestnut. 11mm spacers are little different than the s wheels 10 rear. But yeah I agree that sometimes there’s no difference at all.
I was driving home on evening and an Audi s3 pulled out of a junction in front of me and a front wheel came flying off. I stopped and the young laddie was dismayed “I just fitted new spacers today!” They were massive things, over an inch and one failed spectacularly. f

It wouldn’t be a PistonHeads thread if we didn’t go off on a tangent… so would be interested to hear more about your change in dampers and anti-roll bars.
Also what’s hiding in the garage? Looks like possibly an Elise S2 as a first guess?
