Morning!

I am looking for a haptic dash V8 Vantage in Tungsten Silver with Sportshift. Ideally with rear camera (although I know Aston Installations can fit one).
I may consider a MY17 S registered after April 1st 2017 to get AMI3 with CarPlay and cheaper tax!

I ve been to McGurk who don t have a car with that spec available at the moment (they sold a S just before I was looking).

I assumed that all dealers would be advertising on AutoTrader or PistonHeads but that does not seem to be the case.
Are there any dealers that I am missing from the list below?

Aston Workshop (http://www.aston.co.uk/)
Chiltern Aston Centre (https://www.chilternaston.co.uk)
Aston Sales Kensington (https://www.astonsaleskensington.com)
Nicolas Mee (https://www.nicholasmee.co.uk)
McGurk (https://mcgurk.com)

(In addition to main dealers - HWM is 5 minutes down the road from me)

Thanks in advance

Why not ask Stuart Parker or one of the team at HWM to try and find what you’re looking for?

I second this. The team at HWM are excellent.

But I wouldn’t get hung up on limiting it to an S spec. The non-S only really differs by interior trim. The 10bhp hike is easily offset by having the secondary cats bypassed (legal in the UK).

As always, the important things are the specific options you may want, which were available to S and non-S cars.

You already identified SportShift and the MY that comes with CarPlay as standard (good choices), but other options to consider are:
  • Comfort or Sports suspension
  • Hi-Fi grade (if you can find a B&O equipped car, jump for it)
  • Lightweight carbon seats (strangely more comfortable, but you lose side airbags)
…as well as the usual interior and exterior colour ways.

Finally, ensure the tyres aren’t the originals at that age regardless of tread depth.

Good luck. You won’t regret it.

Thanks N430, I’ll reach out to the team at HWM

Noted nickv - ideally I wouldn’t have an S but from MY17, you couldn’t get a non-S so if I want CarPlay and cheaper tax then it has to be an S.

That may have been me that bought that V8S from McGurk recently. They have a good turn over of cars there so something will come up but it is a very small amount of them that are in the post April 2017 car tax bracket.

I didn't actually know that! I agree that the lower tax band is really neat. Perhaps the N430 is also an option: this model was mid-way between the non-S and S price-wise and effectively another interior design/trim option. Again, it could be optioned in any which way. The last 10 were all dark gray with very slight N430 livery contrast.

My previous V8 Vantages attracted the (now) £760 annual road tax.

My 2018 V12 AMR is £195.

Makes zero sense, but you will not believe how quickly I pay upon receiving the demand, before they change their mind! type

I agree the tax thing makes no sense and it does feel like someone's going to change it at some point

Really looking for an 'understated' car - will look at the N430 again but some I saw were quite vibrant!!

Still nothing - why is no one selling V8Vs !?

I spoke with Stuart@HWM and I got the sense that he didn't think anything would come up!?

I think you may need to widen your search parameters a bit. Your first post says you’re looking for a car registered after April 2017. I don’t know for sure but I would assume production volumes of “standard” V8S cars was fairly low then as the last V12S and AMR cars were being produced, and in addition to that focus was shifting towards the replacement model “new Vantage” which was revealed in November 2017. May explain the scarcity of supply, and I would also add that there is a good chance owners of the last tranche of V8S cars may be holding on to them too. Could be worth speaking to Tim Cottinghsm at AMHT to get an idea of how many cars fitting your search criteria were actually produced. BRM.

Thanks Minglar. I will check on numbers.

The April 2017 was to get lower road tax - that's ideal but not a show stopper
The MY17 has a number of significant benefits: Heated Seats, Cruise Control, Premium Audio, CarPlay
Many of those are commonly added to cars by purchasers so often found in the specs but CarPlay is the killer that wasn't an option an only available on AMI III.
I want a haptic dash car (so from MY16) and to add CarPlay onto that is £3K. I know many will say don't worry about it or just mount your phone so it's visible but if I'm spending £50K ish on a forever car, I'd like it to be as good as it can be. I realise that means I'm probably looking for a needle in a haystack

If a MY16 Tungsten Silver non-S comes up for sale, I'd probably go for it, just wouldn't be the 'perfect' spec (and I'm not too bothered about the S but that's all that was available for MY17)

The results are in! Tim has responded quickly:

"There were 7 UK 2017MY V8 Vantage S SS2 in Tungsten - possibly 3 registered after April 2017"

From MY16 onwards (at least) the former standard Tungsten Silver became a cost option "Contemporary" exterior colour for V8 Vantage in AML´s ever-changing revolving paint palette scheme. Might explain why it´s a rare find on MY16/17 cars. The next closest standard "bright" silver exterior colour that was available as a non-cost option ("Primary") from at least MY17 (maybe even MY16 as it was the DB11 launch colour) was Magnetic Silver. A lot of MY17 V8 Vantage S cars were specced either by the factory or by the dealerships in Magnetic Silver. Mine is one of them. Magnetic Silver may look a bit "unfriendly" and dark on photos taken in showrooms or under overcast sky. But as soon as the sun comes out the difference in brightness to Tungsten Silver is not great anymore. But it has lot more metallic sparkle than the older colours, hence looks more interesting. I was blown away when I first saw mine "in the metal" at the dealership. All my longing for Tungsten Silver had instantly vanished.
