Aston Martin Rapide S "plopping noise" from dash
Discussion
Hello all,
Second topic I am trying to get clarity on with my new car is a "plopping noise" coming from the dash.
It's a 2015 Rapide S. The noise is very regular. I'd say about every 5 seconds. Mainly noticable at very low speed or when stopping. I think I locate it from the center of the dash.
My guessing is that it's a flap of the A/C that lost its position and keeps turning all the time. But no matter which A/C function I tried (manual, different air distributions, Auto, AUC), nothing is changing it.
My next step would be a dealer visit to get the error codes read out.
But today someone previously test driving a Virage told me, he heard the same and that it's "normal"...?
Any V12 owners with potentially the same AC unit have similar experience?

So far, the few people thinking that they know it, are convinced it's the AC compressor clutch getting engaged (or better to say: on and off).
I'll ask the dealer in April during my service to also give an opinion.
Turn off the a/c. If the noise stops then it's a/c relatedI'll ask the dealer in April during my service to also give an opinion.
Well, I tried all kinds of blower and AC settings already with no change. I am not perfectly recalling if I turned it off completely though.
I will try.
But despite that: it's strange that the sound is so regular, no matter what's the engine or setting status. It should change over the necessity for cool air, I guess.

The other thing to add to your testing is to over-ride the flaps by setting the direction of the air manually - this should stop the system trying to open and close flaps to optimise the internal environment by moving the air direction about. And don't forget to try "recirc"I will try.

Hi,
Not sure if this is useful but when my Rapide S first went to Bamford Rose Mike diagnosed a failing fuel purge valve as the cause of a regular 'ticking' noise coming from what seemed the centre of the dashboard. He advised this was a common issue and the parts are not too expensive.
A quick bit of googling finds an Aston Store 'high performance' part that is indicated as a DIY fit - this suggests that the OEM part would also be a DIY job.
HTH,
John.

Thank you all for advising.
I only had a very short drive today (I must say, I am a bit distracted cause my first son was born 48hrs ago and his mom just got out of ICU yesterday evening).
As hitting the AC button didn't stop the light (nor the compressor, I guess), I just switched the ventilation to OFF (interesting to see that it made two manual distribution lights go on). With "lights" I mean the function illumination of the text of the buttons.
So anyway, with vents in OFF, I could still hear it clearly and unchanged in rhythm. That also matches my previous observation.
John's hint is my hot lead now 👍
I am going to dig deeper into that.

Found your add. Sounds like they are selling the whole system. Another part dealer sells the valve alone for around 60€.Not sure if this is useful but when my Rapide S first went to Bamford Rose Mike diagnosed a failing fuel purge valve as the cause of a regular 'ticking' noise coming from what seemed the centre of the dashboard. But I guess I have to open my hood first and find that thing. According to a DB11 threat about that kind of issue, a V12 has two valves. And they seem to have the lines connected by standard which could make it more difficult to just replace the valve alone.
While I am in there to check my original assembly, I might (should?) as well be able to hear the noise from the engine side.
Last thing: have you had a "check engine light" or just the noise? I have only the sound but the V8s and DB11 V12s around in forums easily got the error codes and CEL.
