VANTAGE 4.3 WATER PUMP
Discussion
Hi.
As a newcomer to Vantage ownership I have been having a good look over the car to see what jobs need doing.
Whilst crawling around underneath a very feint trace of coolant was seen on the front of the engine, the water pump appearing to be the culprit. The car seems to use no water so the leak is minor but obviously needs sorting.
The genuine part from Aston is well over £600….. Having owned a 4.2 Xk previously the pump appears to be identical and cross referencing it, also the same as a 4.4 Range Rover. Genuine pumps for these are around £220 and aftermarket ones around £50!
Am I safe to assume the 4.3 Vantage water pump is the same as the Jaguar one? I can see no difference but wait to be corrected.
Another part that looks a bit sad is the air con condenser, is this an Aston only part? There doesn’t seem to be any listed elsewhere.
Many thanks
Chris

Thank you for that information.
Since asking the question I have found a company called Flying Spares who sell an “aftermarket “ condenser along with radiators from an OEM manufacturer. Has anyone used these as they are quite a bit cheaper than the Aston ones?
I bought the car knowing a few jobs needed doing but these two were a bit unexpected. After saying that, no regrets so far!
Nigel, thank you for your reply and I must say, prior to my purchase, how much I have enjoyed reading the thread on your ownership experience. It made me realise that owning an Aston was something I could achieve, even if on a bit of a budget!

Thanks - as you know from my thread, I bought at the entry level of Gaydon-era Astons and I was definitely ‘on a budget’. However, as anyone that’s fished at this end of the pool will know, what you think is the budget and what it actually turns out to be are to very different figures. When I set out, I recall saying that I expected it to break my heart and my wallet at some point. I was only half right, as I’m still firmly besotted, but the bills were more than I’d hoped…
Back to the condenser - if you can’t find any feedback / reviews of the aftermarket item, I’d go with a genuine one - not worth the hassle for a couple of hundred quid saving. You don’t want to be doing it twice, as fitting the condenser is a bit of a faff - radiator and cross-beam is in the way. Not difficult, but fiddly.
Hello.
In answer to my own question and after looking at a lot of images of the water pump on the 4.3 engine, I bit the bullet and took a chance on ordering a water pump.
Cross referencing the part numbers showed that the Range Rover water pump was the same as the Jaguar 4.2V8 and I ordered a genuine one from Maltings 4x4.
With a discount code it was just over £140, the Aston one is over £700 from some AM parts suppliers.
It arrived today and seems identical in every way, even the part numbers on the castings are the same!

The 4.7 water pump appears to have an extra outlet so is definitely different but for the 4.3 the pumps seem the same.
Hopefully this will be of interest to some of you.
Regards
Chris

The 2W93-8501-BC is the Ford part number (it may not actually fit a Ford - JLR and Aston were all part of the Ford PAG and used their numbers; Volvo were also a member but a law unto themselves). In answer to my own question and after looking at a lot of images of the water pump on the 4.3 engine, I bit the bullet and took a chance on ordering a water pump.

It might be worth posting your findings in the "Alternative Parts" thread, stickied at the top of the forum

You might have a browse through to see if anyone else has beat you to it before you potentially duplicate. Definitely mention the 4.7 variant being different.
