Morning all

I have a 2013 V8 Vantage, and just recently, there has been a noticeable buzzing sound coming from the car.

This noise is located within the off side rear wheel arch, and the sound is very loud when the ignition is on but the engine is not started. Also when you start the engine, the sound does not go away, you can still hear it.

The buzzing noise, also manifests itself, in that when you open the rear off side compartment in the boot where you can plug in the battery conditioner, the buzzing can be felt on all the stuff in there.

Then leave the car alone for a day or so and it then disappears. Apart from that the car drives fine, no warning lights or other issues. All a bit strange. Battery was changed 2 years ago. This has been happening for about 7 - 8 weeks, with the car being driven every weekend, last run was 500 miles to the Lake District and back, I would say about 4 times in this period.

Anyone any experience?

Thanks all

Kevin

I never had such a noise on my Vantage, but my Noble's fuel pump was really loud, which made me suggest it.

Some cars have them inside the tank as well, but I don't know where it's located on a Vantage.

Anyway, it's a certainly a possibility.

Morning Kev

Does it start when you turn on the ignition, or when you open the driver's door? Because if it doesn't start when you open the door, that probably rules out the gearbox hydraulic pump.

No, it only does it when the ignition in on, but not every time, the ASM pump noise when you open the door sounds as it always does

Thanks chief

Sounds like the vacuum pump for the exhaust valves.
If there is a leakage within the system (tube cracked/slid of or valve stuck) the pump wont stop.
Its located on the right side of the car after the rear wheel.
Visible from the back if you look from the floor & accesible via wheel shell removement.
I had the valve near the pump stuck some time ago, took it out, sprayed with WD40 and it decided to work again...

Kev,

If it is the vacuum pump you should be able to check by pulling the fuse. It's either 15 or 22, depending on the age of your car (it should be in your handbook) The fuse is in the fusebox in the boot. Pull the fuse and, if the noise stops, you've found your issue.

Some people run without the fuse in, as you've probably read on PH, to improve/increase the exhaust noise - but I know that's not your thing

Hopefully the exhaust valve is all it is and an easy, cheap remedy is possible. Tr-Spider's reply suggests it is and once again proves the only two things a home mechanic needs are WD-40 and duct tape.
