I’m wanting to get the battery replaced and ordinarily would spec a Varta or Bosch Silver series as I see no other logic with batteries than to get the absolute best quality, not necessarily the OEM one (whatever that is?).

As it’s under a rear seat I’m presuming its dimension critical. Anyone done this and have insights into it?

Just to add, I’m asking about a MY2018 V12 but I suspect this will be a common thing for all DB11 versions (?).

Check recent topics.
I recall in the past week or so, reading about batteries and the required dimensions were mentioned.
They might have been for Vantage, but see if that topic helps you.

Hi,

Yes, I just replaced the battery in my 2018 DB11 V12 a few weeks ago.

On battery size - Sizes are standard and the posts orientation are standard when you replace the battery with the same size designation. For the DB11 it is - Group size 49; H8 - AGM.

Regarding "the best" battery, there is a subset of battery manufacturers that supply product to numerous retailers and label the same product under the retailer's name. For me, more than the battery name, I am more concerned with what retailer I am buying the battery. I know, for example, I can go to three retailers and end up with the same manufactured battery, but I want the retailer that turns a lot of shelf product so the battery I am buying is fresh and has not sat on the retailer's shelf for a long time (like a year possibly)

Here are a couple examples of battery manufacturers. BTW, in the US my goto battery has always been Duralast as the retail stores sell lots of batteries, but the battery is mfgred by Johnson Controls

Johnson Controls: A major manufacturer of aftermarket batteries sold under brands like DieHard, Duralast, and Interstate

East Penn: A major manufacturer of aftermarket batteries

Stryten: A major manufacturer of aftermarket batteries

Delphi: A manufacturer of battery brands like ACDelco and EverStart

Exide: A manufacturer of battery brands like Champion, Exide, and Napa

All the Best,

So a quick search suggests Bosch car batteries are made by either Johnson Controls or Exide. They probably use both mfgrs based on retail locations, and might be for US based retailers. Europe might have a different supplier for Bosch.

EDIT
And one more note - Johnson Controls owns Varta.

Thanks for the replies. There are actually 3 or 4 threads related to db11 batteries. Not sure why I didn't pick them up before. Though I didn't see anything very specific to what the OEM battery is other than probably Banner brand.

Skhannes - maybe this is a UK to US difference but when I search on UK sites with my reg number it pulls up batteries of 019 AGM size. I don't see references to Size group 49 or H8. Maybe different standards but effectively the same thing?

I see Duralast, Banner, Bosch, Varta and Exide options. But they are all within a millimeter of each other dimensionally. From my Porsche days the overwhelming consensus was to ditch OEM (Moll) and fit Varta or Bosch.

Has anyone in UK done it and can confirm the 019 AGM Varta fits? Or can categorically say what the OEM battery model is so I can compare?

I can’t confirm the dimensions but I do believe that Bosch batteries are manufactured by Varta.

Bosch seem to come with an extra year’s warranty but Varta is always my go-to.

Hi Brian,

I did a quick search using our car/model/year. I chose a Varta battery which I don't believe is sold in the US. When I did, these specs showed.

The H8 is universal with case sizes and used here too in the US. The 019 AGM shows up, but not the group 49. Note, under the 019 it says UK code. I am concluding the "group 49" used in the US is our system compared to the UK system (different numbering, but believe this battery will fit your car in the UK and mine in the US).

Yep, looks like you've confirmed it there. And that's the same Varta model I have my eye on. Thanks.
