Afternoon All

I am looking at getting back into an Aston Martin Vantage after having previously owned a 2020 Vantage a couple of years ago.

I have read and watched loads of reviews about the F1 Edition and I prefer the look but does it noticeably actually drive better the standard car as per the review comments or is it just a placebo?

I don't have any local to me currently to test drive and just after some thoughts of any owners that have driven both before taking the next step.

Thank you in advance.

Like yourself I owned a 20 and a 21 plate Vantage and thought they were wonderful cars . Prior to purchasing the 21 Plate I did have a test drive in the F1 but decided against it because of a few things . Firstly the styling with the wing on the back and the garish interior (fake suede with a yellow stripe) personally I thought to be a complete mess . Alcantara is a hideous cost cutting material foisted upon us as being somehow more "sporting" and the whole car felt as if it was posing as something it wasn't .
I found no noticeable performance increase over the standard Vantage and I had it for an hour unaccompanied .I appreciate that opinions will of course differ and it would be a strange world if we all thought the same but for me a 21 spec Vantage in Divine Red with the Bonnet Vents , Black Leather and Snowflake Wheels preferably fully PPFd is a wonderful thing . Surprisingly hard to find .

I thought the same about having such a wing on a road car, and whilst a good steer the Vantage isn’t exactly a track king, so what’s it trying to prove other than a slight association with F1?

As for the additional few BHP you can easily blow that into the weeds with the Velocity AP tune via DAE, if you feel the need.

I’m not sure what other small tweaks it might have but it certainly doesn’t need firmer suspension - I never take mine out of Sport mode.

Additionally the F1 edition comes with 21” wheels so you’ll get a slight compromise on the comfort there anyway.

As said above, it’s horses for courses, but that was my thought process - although the colour should be Minotuar Green wink

Thank you both for your feedback.

I must be in the minority as I love the look of the F1 edition and like alcantara!

The main issue I had with my 2020 Vantage was getting the power down but what came to light when I sold the car was the Pirelli tires had started to crack very slightly around the edge even though the tread was good but I am now thinking the tires might have been my biggest issue rather than the car itself.

The only hardware differences from the standard car are springs, sway bars, and a stabilizing bar for the gear box. Software does the heavy lifting via 25 more bhp, and a sharper/firmer shock calibration.

The styling package does zero for me inside and out, but, Im kinda boring. 😂

The Pirelli’s are ok once warm but in lower temperatures they can be very average.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (that’s “4s” and not "4’s") are so much better but have been around a few years now and bettered by the Continental Sport Contact 7 for steering sharpness, although you can’t get the Conti 7’s in AM6 20” size. The new Pilot Sport s5 are excellent too but also tend to be OEM on new cars and not a lot of sizes yet available as replacements.

On my previous F-Type I had PS4s on the rear and Conti 7 on the front axle and it proved a really good blend.

I completely agree with your thinking regarding the tyres . I took the advice of Lee down at HWM who has done a bit of track work with the Vantage and switched to the Michelins . It was as he had said , a complete game changer . Of course I posted this on a Forum and the inevitable happened . Someone popped up , said he had done likewise and found no difference .
I still stick with my own personal experience . I had the P Zeros on an F Type V8 R and an F Type SVR as well as a 911 GTS . Only on the 911 did they impress .

Russ

i'm with you

ive got a 22 F1, had the OPF removed & mild tune - now sounds like it goes

The pirelli tyres are crap - particularly if cold - very hard sidewalls, no where near the grip of the Michelins I have on the other car, particularly in the wet. I've done 25,00km so just about to change them for Michelin PS4S or PS5 if I can get them

it is a significant step up from the late VH cars (which is no surprise). I havent driven a standard vantage 2018-24 so cant comment on differences but its a great car and am more than happy with the interior (although the new interior is superior)

Thanks everyone

I think I will make the effort to go a test drive one but with the knowledge that swapping to Michelin's will help the situation if I find the F1 (with newer tires) feels similar to what I remember.

I love the look of the standard Vantage but the F1 is just a step above in my view and really looking forward to owning an Aston again after.

I saw one recently in satin green, it looked very purposeful. Couldn't these also be optioned with a manual or was that a different edition?
