Hello one and all!

I've decided it's time in my life to own an Aston, given some of the prices currently it seems like a great time to get into something special. I'm currently in a BMW M2 (G87) and it's alright, but nothing special. I previously had a Porsche GT4 and that was special (to me). I was originally looking at the DB11 but have slowly moved towards the Vanquish, especially given they are in the same region price wise.

I've read and watched so many things about 6speed vs 8speed and still honestly don't know without driving if the £15k difference is worth it.

I curently have 2 examples which seem decent for age/price, I guess my question and reason for posting is, are they good buys from non AM dealers? Both have very good service history and seem to check out with online history checks.

The 8 speed seems like a very good example, however it's been listed since January! The 6 speed apart from the interior (two tone spicy red), which I would have to see just how it is in person vs pictures seems like a great price and I absolutely love the colour (volcano red)!

Apologies for all the text and thanks in advance smile

(sadly I can't post links as a newb but both are on AT, Margari & Wimbledon Carriage Co)

Welcome.

When I was looking for my Aston Martin, I had a specification in mind, so just waited and watched.
After almost a year, the ideal car was advertised.

If you are uncertain about living with Spicy Red, can you wait for others to appear?

Sorry, I don't have any experience of the 6 speed vs 8 speed models.

Thanks! Agree on having a spec in mind.

It's a surprisingly nice day today in the UK so as the 6 speed Volcano red vanquish was only a 30 minute drive away, I decided to go and take a look.

First impressions, absolutely stunning! Then I heard it... Made the M2 I drove there in sound like an EV in comprison.

Took it out for a test drive around the Surrey Hills area, blown away! 6 speed doesn't feel sluggish, not enough to not want to buy it any way.

The two-tone interior was actually really nice, suits the car well and sets it apart from the black on black I was thinking with the newer one.

Called my broker on the way home, numbers work out so it's probably a purchase! What a car!!

The Wimbledon Carriage car had some dodgy made up Aston martin wilmbledon carriage stamps in the service book.
I think you can see them on auto trader
Always makes me laugh on a nice end car why as a dealer would you not just take to a local AM dealer

Good spot! I did actually look through the paper work and the service book, my eyes were clearly focussing on the fish tank! There seemed to be enough history and in more recent times, work carried out at AM Walton-on-thames.

Would this be a red flag?

Check the front end, the wing mirrors, the A pillars, the lead edge of the roof and the front faces of the rear wings (forward of the rear arches) for stone chips. AM paint has a reputation for being soft, and the rear arches in particular pick up nicks. The factory PPF on them isn’t big enough.

Personal view: always buy for yourself and not the next owner. But unless you plan to keep a car until you die at some point you’ll have to sell it. Red Vanquishes tend to hang around on forecourts. Red plus red interior more so (the WCC car has been on AT since May, for example).

Black plus black OTOH I think is an overly safe choice. Vanquishes work well in the darker metallic greys IMO.

6s v 8s. Lots of threads on this. High level summary: some say the 8s jumps between gears too much. Some say the 6s feels lethargic. 6s cars are less sought after and are priced lower. The V12 engine in a Vanquish has enough torque not really to need a lot of gears though. Yes, the 8s may be slightly quicker to 60, slightly quicker on rolling acceleration and has a higher top speed but chances are you’re not going to use that margin very often.

They are to my eyes the most attractive Aston of the last 25 years. So good choice!

It was my first real good look at one up close and all around. It was an instant hit.

Body work all checked out, paint looked good all round too. A good detail and ceramic coat and it'll pop! I checked under the front splitter assuming this would be the most hit area and it was fine, doesn't appear damaged at all.

I loved the red, I went in with an open mind on the red interior but it actually worked well (maybe my taste). It wasn't as garish as it is in the photos and the red wheel has been replaced with black.

Agree with silver, I can only imagine how good that looks in the flesh!

If you do go ahead with your purchase I can highly recommend Dan at Surrey Detailing - the work he does and care taken with your car is very impressive.

I’ve had PPF to the front and to the rear haunches and a quality ceramic coat from the doors back, including the side and rear glass.

HWM Walton are also very good, including their Flying Technician, Mike.

…although to find out he can’t actually fly was a tad disappointing.
