very nice , thanks

I was impatiently waiting for this Sport Auto super test.
It is all (and more) what I would have hoped for.
This car is very special !

The comments should take away any doubt about the
capabilities of this very special Aston Martin.

Can't wait to get mine (will be getting one of the first with the DSG gearbox)

Looks like the V8 isn't that quick in straghtline at all...... but seems to corner very well!

DSG?? Is this just a rumour or has this been confirmed? Who is supplying this transmission? Isn't DSG a VW Group product?

DSG : speculation on my part at the moment.

explanation : DSG is the VW name for a double clutch transmission but is not a VW product as such.
Porsche has been using this type of transmission in racing before. Also Porsche will have a DSG box in the very near future named PDK.
However since most people know the double clutch box as DSG I used this name.

Now for the reason I believe (hope) that the V8 will have a DSG style gearbox is this:

Aston Martin confirmed that within 12 to 16 months a second gearbox option will be offered.
I have been told that the ZF Touchtronic will not fit in the V8. I also think they will not use an SMG style system a la Vanquish. And last but not least I have heard rumors that Aston Martin is planning to use a brand new gearbox from ZF.

It happens that ZF introduced a new gearbox at the IAA : a 7 speed DSG style gearbox developed for cars with front engine/ rear drive layout and able to take up to 500 NM torque.
All this makes me think (hope) that it will be a DSG gearbox and if it is it will be state of the art and Aston Martin will be one of the very first company's using this 7 speed DSG style gearbox (like some years ago the ZF 6 speed auto was introduced in the Jag. S type right behind the than new BMW 7)

I really can't fathom why paddle shifts are so popular in sports cars......? Surely the gearshift is an integral part of the driving experience. What's going to be next, a sports cars that drive for us?
Might as well hop on the train......
